✦ AI summary

Phoenix Point is a tactical strategy game that attempts to capture the X-COM formula but falls short in execution and polish, with players frequently noting repetitive combat, bland world design, and clunky unit mechanics that undermine its interesting core ideas. While some appreciate certain mechanics and the Terror From the Void mode, most reviews criticize the generic presentation, poor voice acting, unbalanced gameplay, and technical issues that make the experience feel tedious rather than engaging.

I really wanted to like it, but it ended up being a chore. Combat gets repetitive, dealing with the factions is opaque and frustrating while also not being worth it. I felt like I was constantly putting out annoying little fires.

Cool mechanics, but game is pretty bland. Enemy and world design not as interesting as X-com. EULA is also sketchy asl

Imagine if XCOM 2 was a bit less fluid, a lot more generic, and a lot more bland voicing and story wise. Everyone feels like they're reading from a script, the art has an... uncanny valley look despite not being AI, but it generally scratches that "XCOMerpes" rash everyone gets now and then. It does get bland after a while. I have to mention it because it bugs me, but the heavy class has the worst starting abilities, Getting a unit that can jet pack way up high, but also is very tanky, and is also carrying a cannon sounds good, but in execution, you get this clunky unit that when your using it "as intended" just simply doesn't work. Its a nessecary class, what they offer is good. The jet pack costs 3 ap and 3 will to use, the cannon takes 3 ap to use and is incredibly close range being a bit less accurate than a rifle and a bit more accurate than a pistol, you can off set these of course, and if you need a unit to just go touch some objective having a unit that can cross a board in 3 moves or absolutely hate monger some big ticket enemy these are your boys. -TLDR: theres a lot of clunky in this but as long as you have free will that wont be an issue 6/10

Interesting variation on the X-Com vibe, Terror From the Void is stellar as an optional way to play.
