Phoenix Point

There's a good tactics game in here and I had fun with it for a while. The aimed-shot targeting system is a real idea and hitting a specific limb to disable a weapon is satisfying. But it got repetitive fast, and two systems never made sense to me: inventory management is a chore with an interface that fights you, and the global strategic layer never clearly communicated what I was supposed to be doing or why. I stopped without finishing and didn't feel any pull to go back.

XCOM but with all the illogic of 'Aliens cheat reality constantly' removed. Plus when you aim at something, you can get a free sight picture and see why the hit chances suck. And target limbs! Really, the only issue this game is how unheard of it is. IMHO it's far superior to XCOM in general.

As a person who doesn't play these kind of games for thousands of hours, I don't know what people dislike about this one. Campaign was shorter than XCOM2 WotC, which, to me, is a plus. Liked the setting way more here. It's less polished, but idk, I liked it.

This is a great game. I'd never heard of it until i saw someone mention it on Reddit.

There are people that this game is for, but I'm not one of them. As a lover of XCom EU and 2 this game doesn't scratch that itch. If you like the Long War mod for XCom, then you'll like this. If you liked Xcom as it was without the mods you won't like this. It just dials the minutia of base and resource management upto 11 while simplifying the combat. I personally don't care about base/resource management. I want the tactic's of the fight to carry the game. Which in Phoenix Point the combat isn't bad, if you can drag yourself past the boring half of the game.
