About Hyper Light Drifter

✦ AI summary

Explore a hand-animated world of forgotten civilizations and deadly encounters as a drifter searching for a cure to a mysterious illness that's consuming you. Experience a modernized take on classic 16-bit action RPGs where stylish combat, challenging enemies, and hidden secrets reward curiosity and skill at every turn.

Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.

Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease.

• From each character to subtle background elements, everything is lovingly hand-animated.
• Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare.
• Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets abound.
Honestly? It's just really kind of mid
It's such a beautiful game and the soundtrack really gives a lot of personality to Hyper Light Drifter but it's just not that great of a game. I was very excited about getting this one since I heard so much good stuff about it but I'm straight up not having a good time. - I had a lot of soft-lock bugs/glitches forcing me to exit and re-enter rooms or straight up have to quit out to menu - Combat feels super clunky and only having 5HP max for the whole game just feels miserable when a lot of enemies and EVERY boss hits for 2HP. - Unequalized audio means that when you hit a cutscene the audio just f*cking blasts your ears. - They really went overboard with the "secret passages" like there's almost one in every single room. I like secrets but it gets tiring quick the way it's handled. Overall, I'd say the artistic direction and OST are about the only thing I enjoyed about this game.

This game feels amazing to play. visually it's beautiful and the music and sound effects are incredible, the story is completely wordless but I rarely felt like it was missing anything. I can't say how well it would work if I didn't know some of the backstory of the dev, however. I've seen people complaining about the game feeling directionless at the beginning but if you trust the game and just move in a direction, it will take you where you need to go. It really just feels masterfully crafted as a game. Would recommend

This is a very short game and the goal is visible from the moment you get the map, but the few bosses are still fun, the narrative is only visual but you learn more than needed about the world just from bits and pieces, although id like to learn more about the civilization, i hope there is some online material like with hollow knight Id recommend it, its not really challenging you will kill every boss in less than 5 attempts but they are still fun

So good I had to buy this again. It's stunningly beautiful in audio and visual. The story is present, but vague, which I quite liked. It's unique, if nothing else. Mechanically, it's incredibly fun. It lacks some of the difficulty of similar games to where I never felt frustrated playing, but it's a joy to dance around in the abrupt and focused encounters throughout. The secrets are plentiful and wandering is its own reward in these environments.

i normally dont really write any serious reviews on games that i played and that i heavily enjoyed just like to put things in short and keep it funny, but seriously i have played so many games in my life and i dont think i have ever experienced something like hyper light drifter everything about it is just chef's kiss. the music the artwork the characters the bosses me dying numerous times again and again on a boss and ragequitting everything about it was just the right thing the thing that i have been looking for in a game. i now call this one of my top favourite games of all time despite being new to the fandom and it all its all that i think about is hyper light drifter the ending has got me so emotional after finishing the game for the first time ever i have thought about it for weeks on repeat coming back to it every once in awhile to just enjoy the artwork and the music and overall vibe of the game THIS is one of the most charming and beautifull pixel games i have ever played in my life, Thank you heart machine.
