✦ AI summary

Players praise Bastion's innovative design, memorable storytelling, and exceptional soundtrack that hold up well over a decade later, with many considering it a masterpiece that influenced countless indie games. However, some find the combat mechanics feel clunky by modern standards and the boss difficulty unfairly punishing, with slow character movement and relentless enemy knockdowns creating frustration rather than engaging challenge.

Cool concept. Cool design. Horrible gameplay. Your character moves *way* too slow to manage the boss fights. I was being knocked into the air non-stop by the first boss, because by the time I could get back up, it was winding up to knock me into the air again. I had no time to recover from the previous knock-down, and I couldn't run fast enough to stay out of its range. I had no time or chance to create any kind of strategy to deal with it because I was constantly being knocked into the air. I'm sure the designers think that makes it "fun". And that was only the first boss. I noped out of the game after that. This game is defintely from a designer who thinks making boss encounters super frustrating makes it fun. Maybe if you're masochistic, but not if you're looking for a fun, challenging but fair fight. Fake difficulty isn't fun.

The thing that impresses me the most about Bastion is how early it did many of its ideas. So many of its gameplay concepts are echoed in indie action games to this day, and I hadn't realized they began all the way back then. The combat feels a little clunky to me these days, but rolling around and hitting enemies with different weapons is still fundamentally fun. The story also has a fairly weighty message behind it, that will only continue to age better.

its like the alpha of Hades one , simple and basic gameplay even the story is decent enough for a game that was made in 2011 playing it now it deserves the respect.

I dig my hole, you build a wall ♪♫ Came from the song at The Game Awards, left with an amazing experience. The only downside is that there is no Bastion 2.
