About XCOM® 2

✦ AI summary

Lead a ragtag resistance from a mobile headquarters to overthrow an alien occupation of Earth through tactical turn-based combat and strategic base management. Every mission presents unique challenges across procedurally varied maps, letting you customize your soldiers and equipment to outsmart diverse enemy types through ambushes, looting, and coordinated guerrilla tactics.

XCOM 2 is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the 2012 award-winning strategy game of the year.

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, and facing impossible odds, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to ignite a global resistance, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.
  • XCOM ON THE RUN: Take command of the Avenger, an alien supply craft converted to XCOM’s mobile headquarters. New open-ended gameplay lets you decide where to guide your strike team, how to grow popular support, and when to combat enemy counter-operations.
  • RECRUIT RESISTANCE FIGHTERS: Five soldier classes, each with its own skill tree, let you create specific soldiers for your tactical plan.
  • TACTICAL GUERRILLA COMBAT: New gameplay systems offer more tactical flexibility in combat. Use concealment to ambush enemy patrols. Loot enemies for precious gear and artifacts. Rescue VIPs and save fallen comrades by carrying them to the extraction point.
  • A NEW BREED OF ENEMY: A diverse cast of enemies from powerful new alien species to the ADVENT, enforcers of the alien regime, offer a distinct tactical challenge.
  • RESEARCH, DEVELOP AND UPGRADE: Configure and build rooms on the Avenger to give XCOM new capabilities on the battlefield. Use your Scientists and Engineers to research, develop and upgrade weapons and armor to fit your preferred tactics.
  • EACH MISSION IS A UNIQUE CHALLENGE: Go on missions around the world, from wildlands to the heart of the alien-controlled megacities, to the depths of alien installations. There are virtually infinite combinations of maps, missions and goals.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the challenging difficulty and enjoy the core gameplay experience, with several calling it fantastic. However, some feel the game lacks balance, particularly regarding certain mechanics or difficulty tuning that make progression frustrating for some players.

Good game, but it feels like a tactical slot machine. Guaranteed half damage would be a billion times better than this all-or-nothing system.

The easiest mode is still way too difficult. That is not fun!

You should probably play this.

The gold standard that every other tactical strategy game must and often fails to meet. Core gameplay loop are rock solid but what really takes everything up to 11 is the workshop support. Even better is different enough from the first game that it does not make it obsolete. Absolute must play

I know you might be tempted to buy this game because of the review, trust me you are going to regret it, buy Star Wars Zero Company instead which is this game done right. There are so many issues with this game that it's hard to list all of them, it was probably good when it came out, because UX was not really a thing back then, but playing this game today it's just asking to be tortured by the God of pop-ups. You may think you buy a combat game but this is mostly a Popups closing game, the faster you are at closing alert, pop-ups, missive, messages .. the better it is. You spend 10 minutes playing a match and 1 hour reading a thousand messages, one more catastrophic than the other, and if you ignore one of them or lag behind... it's done, the game become unplayable, you stop progressing while your enemies go faster. Not to mention the combat UX, it's hard to follow, you don't have a list with your soldiers let alone your enemies, you have to cycle through your units hoping that you will stop at the right one. There is no logs, so in a battle with 20 soldiers in the field you miss a lot, few times I finished a mission thinking that I smashed it to discover from the report that I …
