Kingdom Shell is a metroidvania about demon problems. Beat it and 100%ed achievements in 12.5 hours using a game controller. Difficulty is medium-hard. You'll probably die a few times. This is a pretty good, straight-of-the-road metroidvania. Traversing each area can be a puzzle, you wander the map looking for places to go, and you find upgrades/items that give you an Ahah! moment. Other reviews complain about the controls, but I never really had a problem. The monster battles were fair. The boss battles, while some can be hard, were also fair. I was intrigued by the world and different npcs, but where the game kinda lulls is in the story, itself - which felt like it was written by a highschooler. Lots of mysterious characters and intrigue, but very little to connect it all. By the time I beat it, I felt a bit of 'That's it?'. But if given the opportunity to play again and experience the over-all feel of the game, I probably would. Kingdom Shell's got character and spunk. Another blight on the game is the walking around. Some hallways take forever (looking at the dwarven area, specifically) and the main guy takes it at a light jog everywhere he goes. In hind…

Kingdom Shell was a huge disappointment for me. Everything was so shallow and boring... The story was incredibly bad, told entirely through static characters talking, and it never stepped outside the clichés. Because of this, I stopped playing right near the end of the game and I honestly don't care about the ending at all. I don't even know where to start with the game's problems. I think I can start with the checkpoints. I understand save points being far apart in a metroidvania until you unlock a shortcut, but I can’t understand why traversing a massive area a second time is pure torture even after unlocking one. Furthermore, I don't understand why I have to walk in a straight line for over half a minute just to get to a boss, and why I have to do this over and over again. This made the gameplay so incredibly tedious that there were times I quit the game purely out of boredom from this grunt work. Coming to variety, the game supposedly gives you equipable items with different traits to buff your character. These make such minuscule differences that it literally does not matter which one you use. They exist purely for the illusion of variety; none of them actually make you any be…

I enjoyed this one. Combat and boss fights were ok, not to frustrating. All the normal expected mechanics of this genre are in this one. Good playtime for the price. Give it a go.
Moderate Shell
A moderately good metroidvania. The controls are moderately precise, the bosses are moderately challenging and the backtracking is only moderately annoying. The 8 bit style is okay, I muted the music because it wasn't great. As always with these games, the story is perfunctory. Good enough to play through once and never come back to again.

Metroidvania bastante componente desarrollado en su mayor parte por una sola persona, que no debería importar pero importa. El final del juego se complica pero no sé si fue porque ya soy un señor mayor. Algunos jefes son buenos y los demás están decentes.
