Flaregate Network

A truly excellent, unique, and challenging deckdrafter and autobattler from a talented solo dev. Flaregate follows in the footsteps of Keystone, which was a great arcade map for Starcraft 2 in its own right. It takes that core card game/autobattler gameplay and refines it into a roguelike experience where you draft a new deck every run, similar to Slay the Spire. On top of that, it features a well-written story campaign with believable characters, a lot of varied missions, bombastic setpieces, and a runtime of around 10 hours that totally warrants multiple playthroughs. The game can be challenging for new players because it is so different from other deckbuilders you may have played before. Some missions are tough and require you to change up your strategy. You cannot expect to always win by just relying on a single archetype. Curving out isn't nearly as important here as it is in other card games. Instead, you want to play the right cards at the right time—even if that means leaving some resources unspent to save up for a game-winning push later. This game is a lot better than i thought it would be. I played the demo and got hooked on it for a while, and decided to purchase it for the extra cards. I'm a huge fan of Auto-battlers, Rogue-like Deckbuilders, and just watching ships blow everybody up. I wish there were more cards, but i think the Dev is working on it. Campaign is a nice change of pace from constantly dying in the rogue-like mode. Give it a try if you are a fan of the genre.

I didn't expect this game to be as addictive as it is. If you're experienced with deck-builders like Slay the Spire, I'd recommend going straight for the "Standard Campaign", which is the main roguelike gameplay. It has the equivalent of ascensions, and at higher ascensions it becomes challenging without feeling unfair. There are a few mechanics that aren't immediately obvious (or maybe you learn them in the story mode), but it's fairly intuitive and you pick up on them as you play. There's a surprising amount of depth to understanding how ships will interact during a "turn", so once you understand the nuance it's very satisfying to execute on.
