In FTL you experience the atmosphere of running a spaceship trying to save the galaxy. It's a dangerous mission, with every encounter presenting a unique challenge with multiple solutions. What will you do if a heavy missile barrage shuts down your shields? Reroute all power to the engines in an attempt to escape, power up additional weapons to blow your enemy out of the sky, or take the fight to them with a boarding party? This "spaceship simulation roguelike-like" allows you to take your ship and crew on an adventure through a randomly generated galaxy filled with glory and bitter defeat.

I bought FTL during a promo. It has a lot going for it. I really enjoyed all the different ways to customize the ship, cruising from system to system and overcoming all the challenges along the way. It's got a lot of flavor. And I agree with other gamers it's a challenging game. To be honest I have not been able to beat the final boss yet, and I am not unlocking new ship types and lay outs because of that so a bit stuck there. I think (a) the game's depth, (b)deep customization and (c) the fact that player choices really matter are its strongest points. However, the final boss battle seems to push players towards adopting certain guarantee-to-win-strategies, which imo is a downside. So having a different build and even if your execution is flawless you will not be able to beat the final boss currently. Still I don't regret purchasing the game and will probably revisit it at some point.

My all-time favorite game, with a final boss that still is not easy after 100+ hrs. I refuse to look up how to have the "best builds". Yes I get more frustrated this way, but every victory is 100% mine. Play it and get lost in one of the best hidden gems of all time.
