Explore the mysterious Ural Mountains to uncover what really happened to nine hikers who vanished in 1959, guided by Sean Bean's haunting narration in this atmospheric horror adventure. Navigate a sprawling open world with only a map and compass, piecing together the truth behind the infamous Dyatlov Pass incident through exploration, environmental storytelling, and multiple layers of discovered lore.
Narrated by one of the most popular British actors, Sean Bean, Kholat is an exploration adventure game with elements of horror, inspired by a true event known as the Dyatlov Pass incident – a mysterious death of nine Russian hikers, which led to countless, unconfirmed hypotheses. The player will plunge directly into the boundless scenery of the inhospitable Ural Mountains with the task to find out what really happened. In the course of events, you may come across more speculations than expected...

Dyatlov Pass incident was a real story that happened in winter of 1959. Nine skilled alpinists went for a trip to the northern part of Ural Mountains, which ended fatally. Bodies of expedition's crew were found scattered on slope of Kholat Syakhl.
Russian investigators closed the case stating that "a compelling unknown force" had caused the deaths.

I solved the mystery in about 20 minutes. Ghosts! Ghosts did the bad thing! I ran right into one and it killed me. I just saved you 20 bucks. Kinda disappointed in the reveal. As far as the game goes, its basically a walking simulator with the occasional quick time event (dodging something) or stealth. Navigating the busted map system is the main challenge of the game.3 found this helpful

Good
It's really not very good. The premise has a lot of promise, but the implementation falls flat. You wander around a snowy wilderness looking for clues to a disaster and trying to avoid supernatural entities tracking you down to kill you. It's difficult without being particularly rewarding, but it does have a spooky and lonely atmosphere, that when desperately trying to avoid the monsters can be nicely dreadful. Overall though, I don't think it's worth the time playing, and it's certainly not worth the price.
