Syberia: The World Before

Beautiful game. Great story and execution, but a bit slow for my taste.

What a beautiful game. I’d say it’s a must play for anyone who loves the Syberia series, but it’s completely enjoyable even if you know nothing about the previous entries. I think this might actually be the best of the four games. The only negatives for me: the story relied a bit too much on coincidences (a slight spoiler example: [spoiler] how Kate happens to find that exact picture of the woman. [/spoiler] I mean, from a probability standpoint, the chances of her picture being right there feel virtually impossible). As for the ending, I wouldn’t have minded if the game had been a bit longer to give the story a proper ending. Unfortunately, since the development studio shut down, a continuation isn't going to happen. It was great to go on one last adventure with Kate Walker.

We finished playing/watching Syberia 4. A game in 32 chapters, much of it is a movie with some puzzles thrown in. Most of the puzzles are fun, while a very few aren't. Overall it is a superlative game to play. It takes place in a fictional fantasy Vienna-ish city, and the graphics are really superb. The story, about Kate searching for her roots, is one of the very best in any game ever played. It is by far the best of the 4 Syberia games, and is probably one of the top five games we have ever played. If you are into PC gaming, this is one to run out and play immediately. Benoit Sokal, the creator of the series, passed away during the making of 4. The series seems wrapped up, and it is unlikely there will be another one.

Great story and art, but the gameplay is still not the best, can only say it’s better than Syberia III

Exceptional in every way, music, story, characters, visuals, gameplay, production. A grown up version of Tomb Raider if you will, but instead of shooting dinosaurs you form emotional connections with characters. Buy this right now, support the creator and this studio, this is gaming realized as art!
