not Chaos Theory, but still a very nice game

A terrible port that ruins an alright game This has got to be the worst port of a game I've ever played. It is beyond broken. There are patches and fixes you can apply to the game but it will break either way. Here's a wall of complaints I have about the game: -- Too linear (reminds me of Pandora Tomorrow) -- The game just randomly crashes. -- You can accidentally delete your save by clicking 'Load' while in game, which also does nothing -- Goodluck rebinding the interaction key because its hardcoded to the spacebar -- Sometimes Sam just fell through stuff -- You will not be able to go into Vents or gaps unless Sam is walking at a medium pace -- Audio just stops in certain missions, I couldn't tell ya why -- The top layer of water in some missions is just a bunch of particle boxes -- On the boat mission where you plant the bomb, NPCs just walk into random objects and some doors have two doors on the same side -- Safe cracking is just the worst thing on PC On a positive note, the gameplay is fine, Its more Chaos Theory which is good. I find the trust mechanic cool since you can choose sides and make some big decisions but they give you too many objectives to keep both factions …

probably the worst Splinter Cell so far.. lazily developed with shattered parts stuck together with elmers stick glue. It's not even the fact that it's a really bad PC port and can't support modern hardware which ends up with constant crashing, but even the games UI is just really bad and obtrusive. The graphics for a "next generation" Splinter Cell don't even compare to its previous titles that have way better facial animations. Not even being overly dramatic. I haven't seen one NPC that didn't have any lip syncing animation when interrogating them, meanwhile Chaos Theory went to such an expressive route of showing the fear in their faces. I never thought this would be a disappointment following up after finishing Chaos Theory and it being more of a downgrade rather than a breakthrough.. To think I was so freaking excited to play Double Agent while playing Chaos Theory thinking it was going to be a marvelous continuation from graphics and gameplay, and it ended up being something written with crayon instead.

The constant performance issues and crashing is just too much to enjoy this entry. The actual gameplay is just fine more chaos theory and would be great if the port wasn’t so broken

TL:DR - It's a terrible port, there's tons of bugs and it frequently crashes when loading a save. If you can overlook this and install a patch for the framerate issues, the game is still enjoyable. I'd still recommend not playing this version and instead playing the one of the original console version. I personally have enjoyed this version.... but not without many, many frustrations and crashes. The game is, frankly a buggy mess. Part of this is due to jankiness caused by higher framerates in the port. Enemy reactions and behavior as well as minigames (in particular the safe-cracking minigame) were built with a framerate cap well below what modern computers run at. Rather than calculate logic steps at a consistent rate, the game will calculate them as fast as the computer will let them resulting in a need for reflexes that are twice as fast or more than needed, a level that people in general do not have even before considering input latency issues. It's bad design, but understandable since the original game was not made for a device that had an adjustable framerate.
