✦ AI summary

DemonCrawl is a Minesweeper-based roguelite that players find engaging and replayable, with synergies that create fun build variety and gameplay that requires genuine thought. However, the game is plagued by frequent crashes that can occur mid-run and ruin otherwise enjoyable sessions, which is the primary complaint across players. Most recommend playing it despite these issues due to its core fun factor, though the stability problems are significant enough that potential buyers should be aware of this major drawback.

I want to like this game more than I do. The appeal of roguelites hinges in variance and the items you acquire help you overcome the odds the game makes you face by either bridging a skill gap, i.e. making the core gameplay easier on their own or offering synergies, or by reducing the randomness of underlying game mechanics. Minesweeper in itself is a game of deduction in which you can correctly assign spaces on the game board with enough time to think and offers very little in regards of randomness aside from having to wager occasional guesses. Demon Crawl sadly sticks too close to the core game's formula. The only useful items are the ones which reduce the frequency at which you have to guess since everything else can be overcome with enough time and thought. However, those items are few and far between and making a mistake in this game can be brutal on account of how little life you tend to start out with and the rapid increase of monster strength, especially once you've passed the early stages. One can, of course, increase their maximum life if the item drops are in their favor but that's effectively just getting lucky to be allowed to continue playing the game. Keep in mind …

I love this game, with more than 500 hours of play time. But do yourself a favour and DON'T BUY IT. It crashes ALL THE TIME, for no reason whatsoever. I'm not bitter, not at all.

Insanely replayable. Every run feels different and the synergies can get really fun once a build starts coming together. The devs have recently been updating it again, so it's worth it. That said, the crashing is honestly very very bad. It crashes way more than it should and it’s super annoying when you’re in the middle (or the end) of a good run. But somehow I still keep playing it anyway because the game is just that fun, in spite of it crashing. It actually makes me use my brain and I always feel weirdly tired after playing for a while. In a good way! But I notice I'd sleep longer after playing this.

I love this game. I just hit level 99. As many others have mentioned, the game crashes way too often. It seems to happen frequently when I gain minions. I hope the developer knows the players are hoping for improvements!
