About START AGAIN: a prologue

✦ AI summary

You're trapped in a time loop as the only one who remembers, forced to hide your unraveling sanity while repeatedly fighting the same enemies and boss with your oblivious allies. This story-driven turn-based RPG explores the psychological toll of temporal entrapment through tactical combat, branching endings, and the painful gap between your knowledge and your friends' ignorance.

✦ TIMELOOP RPG IN STARS AND TIME'S PROTOTYPE. ✦

START AGAIN START AGAIN START AGAIN: A PROLOGUE (or: START AGAIN: a prologue) is a story driven turn-based RPG where you, Siffrin, are stuck in a time loop for no reason you can find.

The country is frozen in time, and together with your allies you fought your way through the castle and fought the King to put an end to this curse… And you died and found yourself right back at the entrance. Again. And again. And again.

But you’re the only one who remembers it; your allies are none the wiser. And there’s no end in sight.

You're fine though! Hiding your knowledge from your friends is easy! Fighting the same enemies is easy! Dying to the same final boss over and over again is easy!

You have to make sure your friends don't find out about the super fun time travel times you're having though.

They can't know.

They can't.

FEATURES:
  • A story all about how time loops would affect someone and their relationship with their friends!
  • ATB based gameplay! Utilize rock-paper-scissors style weaknesses and strengths to tactically take down your foes!
  • Four "endings" depending on your choices (as in, as in, four different ways the battle against the final boss can go)! Including one True Ending!
  • 3-5 hour playtime!
  • Your friends having fun conversations about crabs while you're in the corner on the verge of a panic attack!

"HOW'S THIS RELATED TO SUPERCOOL INDIE RPG IN STARS AND TIME THOUGH?"

START AGAIN: a prologue is the first installment in the START AGAIN series, but this game is complete and you will not finish it feeling like you only read Chapter 1 of a 1000 page book! This prologue is more akin to a side story, a prototype for In Stars and Time, and stands completely on its own.

Also "prologue" is just a cool word.

START AGAIN: a prologue is a compact narrative RPG that takes the familiar concept of a repeating time loop and uses it to explore isolation, frustration, friendship, and the emotional damage caused by remembering events that everyone else continually forgets. Created and published by insertdisc5, the game follows Siffrin, an adventurer traveling with a small group of companions on what should be the final stretch of their quest. Their objective is to confront the King and break the strange curse that has frozen the country in time. Unfortunately for Siffrin, death does not provide an escape. Whenever things go wrong, they return to an earlier point while their companions carry on without any memory of what previously happened. The premise becomes much more interesting because the time loop is treated as an emotional burden rather than merely a gameplay gimmick. Siffrin remembers conversations, mistakes, deaths, discoveries, and failed attempts, while everyone around them experiences each repeated moment as something completely new. At first, knowing what will happen can feel like an advantage. Gradually, however, familiarity becomes exhausting. Repeated conversations that once se…

You don't need to play this to understand "In Stars and Time", but if you liked that game, you might like this. It is far shorter, but still enjoyable!
