PLANET ALPHA

Planet Alpha was... an artistically beautiful but a messy game. Gameplay wasn't too interesting and the day/night mechanics that only added something new to the game was useless after a while. Movements and jumping was clunky at some points, especially in void(?) parts so I got frustrated a lot. However, chase scenes were actually exciting and put me in the game back again. Most of my score goes to environment and sounds as they were beautifully crafted and were the reason I wanted to keep going. Most of the story was happening at the background, and I enjoyed how the environment crafted a story for itself. We were running to survive in the front, while nature was fighting to survive in the back. Especially [spoiler] watching the flying whale family fight for themselves and seeing the mom and dad die as they slowly lose their limbs in the background broke my heart. I was happy that the child survived but then the nuke happened... Beautiful game, a little confusing story but the gist is understandable, and clunky at times due to bugs but nothing that prevents completion. The puzzles can be frustrating at times but nothing too bad. There are invisible walls out of nowhere at any given moment so you have to jump to free yourself which isn't intended, like you are just stuck running in place for no reason...not sure what caused this bug. I completed the true ending without guidance on my first and only run so it isn't too difficult to find the artifact portals needed for that even though 2 of the 4 gave rare achievements so take that as you wish. Worth a play, one of the better side scrollers out there.

gimme patience to finish this crap

This is a very pretty left to right walking puzzle game with some platforming tossed in (Limbo and the like). It runs really well and looks good doing it. The puzzles are never very complicated. The platforming is not too difficult either. There are collectibles to search out if you want to find those.

The world looks so pretty and the creatures that inhabit it look amazing, wonderful art style. The platforming and puzzles are great fun with some really seat of your pants moments. The story is simple but the ending I got was great. My only complaint is your going to die a lot simply because you don't know what's coming and before you figure it out your dead and have to try again. On quite a few occasions this became very annoying as once you figure the first part out the second part kills you, and once you have figured the second part out the third part does you in! This basically means each time you die you are put back at the start of that sequence and have to do each part over and over until you figure it all out and get to the next auto save. This happens more on the later chapters and no so much early on, if you can put up with lots of trial and error then this game is worth getting, if not then don't bother. All in all the annoying parts were outweighed by the great for me so I would recommend it.

**Planet Alpha** is one of the most visually impressive games I've played. For the kind of game it is, I think it's one of the most beautiful out there. The environments are stunning, and the atmosphere keeps you moving forward just to see what's waiting around the next corner. The gameplay mechanics are very simple, and so are the puzzles. Most of the game consists of platforming, solving small environmental puzzles, and a bit of stealth. You'll probably die a few times, but overall it's not very difficult. Usually, it's just a matter of trying one path or another until you figure out the right way to progress. Overall, I absolutely loved the game. The only downside was that I ran into two annoying bugs. The first one caused the game to crash about 30 seconds after launching. I eventually fixed it by installing a system library, although I can't remember exactly which one. After that, the problem was completely resolved. The second bug was a bit stranger: the game always launched SteamVR. I was curious enough to try playing it in VR, but it doesn't really add much to the experience.
