About Ruby & Majesty: Treasure Team

a tale of teamwork in a broken world

It begins at the end. Nothing could have survived the total collapse of spacetime so it's lucky that it was only a near total collapse. Surrounded by a vast ocean of quantum chronographic static Planet Dirt only has a small number of "stable" dimensional fragments. These little twisted loops of spacetime are full of dangerous traps, distorted technology, and other memetic manifestations of temporal anxiety but at least existence is remotely possible there.

The Twin-Hero Puzzlevania

Ruby & Majesty: Treasure Team follows the adventures of Ruby and Majesty as they search for timeless treasure and fragments of forgotten knowledge in the most bizarre and hostile reaches of Planet Dirt. No matter what they face there is always one way forward: TEAMWORK!

Solve action based puzzles by coordinating two distinct characters, each with their own capabilities. Ruby the Human and Majesty the Bat must navigate strange environments in search of treasure and the secrets of their world. Control both characters simultaneously and solve fiendish puzzles by pushing blocks, carrying keys, dodging projectiles, fleeing creatures, and always abiding by the Treasure Team motto: PRESS ALL THE BUTTONS!

Here are my two cents about this game, it starts out great as a mix between early Wario titles on gameboy, Knytt series and Chip's challenge, not sure if a lot of people played it, but you can throw Nub's Adventure style wise into the list too. It doesn't take long to be dragged into this strange world, where puzzles are part of everything including gameplay, story, characters.. the world itself. -Story- 7/10 Unfortunately despite how much I liked the concept, it doesn't explain much or work well towards giving you more sensical clues about what is going on, a lot of npcs you find have only few dialog lines, upon completing a big chunk of puzzles and challenges sometimes you feel like going back to the hub area and finding something new, some kind of subtle rewards for your exploration and adventures. But everything stays the same. You can listen to the tracks that you found, or speak to the npcs that you rescued, they will stay in their tiny rooms, and it can be a bit frustrating to visit the new rooms upon each new rescue, because it won't show which rooms you already visited and their door portals have identical indications. Even though the interaction with these npcs is poi…

Ruby & Majesty is a fantastic puzzle-based action-exploration game. It was designed with solo play in mind, hence the extremely simple controls (one joystick per character, no buttons needed outside of menus), but the puzzles are compelling and creative enough that playing with a friend is still a rich and satisfying experience. Plus, as the characters each have their own unique roles to play in every puzzle, playing with a friend essentially nets you two games in one-- just switch controllers and start a new game, perhaps in Flipped mode for an even fresher experience. [Edit from original review: I have found both endings of the game and appreciate them both.] There are some extremely hard post-game puzzles to contend with, and from everything I've seen so far I get the feeling this game has much more to offer in terms of lore and gameplay. Speaking of which, I'm really excited to see what people manage to come up with in the Steam workshop as well, and I'll definitely be experimenting there myself eventually. There's definitely opportunity for both devilishly hard reflex tests and for mind-twisting button and wall gauntlets. You should definitely buy this game, and nab the s…

A fantastic hidden gem. This is really fun to play with a friend (alone, some of the later challenges get tricky with two characters on one controller) and while it is meant to couch co-op, it works with Remote Play Together meaning you can couch co-op with any of your steam friends. I loved the setting, a ruined future with an uncertain past. characters that are temporally unmoored so you can meet them before releasing them from time jail. The puzzles feel very well tuned though there were a few instances where it was a bit janky and hard to tell if me and my friend were doing it "correctly" or exploiting bugs. Speaking of, this game has a few bugs, a few issues happened during our playthrough but nothing major or game ending. The game saves pretty much every room anyway. Art-wise i loved the pixel art, the multiple palettes are neat, the game feels retro in a good way. Like, it's a bit rough around the edges but not to a point that causes discomfort when playing. If you like 2-player puzzle adventure games, it's very recommended. absolute hidden gem.

This game is quite a lot of fun for me. I enjoy how well the strengths and weaknesses of both characters require them to be used for different parts of the levels. I also love the writing and characterization, and the story is fun to play through. While the game is meant to be played with two people, I played through it at least three times solo. It is easy enough to complete the main 'fragments' (dungeons) solo, but it's quite difficult to complete some of the bonus challenges at the end solo. It is possible, though - I have fully played through the game once. However, the ending is bugged (or maybe it wasn't finished?), so it does mean that getting all of the achievements is almost impossible.
