Super Alloy Ranger

30/100 Positives: + Nice female character design Negatives: - Infuriating level design. - Spikes and wind are implemented really obnoxiously. - Enemies idle while you wait for them to attack and attack the moment it's impossible to avoid damage as you jump over because you got tired waiting for them. - Game is kinda hard for me as close range character 02 on super difficulty but laughably easy on normal - no matter which - it stays unfun. - Translation is horrible. Makes hardly any sense. Lots of spelling/grammar errors. Play Rabi-Ribi instead. Far better game.

It's a decent, short little megamanlike with some modest depth and a fair bit of jank. Formula-wise, the first half is closer to a later X, and the later half is closer to a regular megaman. Nothing gets to the point of masocore, like Rosenkruezstilette, but enemies have extremely fast targeting and there's a lot of stuff on screen, so not getting hit can become kind of ridiculous to hope for. Add to this that there's a lot of scuffed situations the game will put you in---enemies zero-framing you as you pass through a door, or haunting you through the geometry, or using an attack with no startup animation---and it's good that the normal mode difficulty is pretty easy. There's two playable characters, an X and a Zero, and they're both... okay. The X is not a particularly good X, and the Zero feels really glitchy (you can air infinite from underneath bosses with certain weapons), but I don't think either is objectionable. Once you get used to Alloy Ranger's funk, there's even some fun tech to it. Story-wise, Alloy Ranger is translated and a little incoherent. Even with no spelling errors (which is not the case here,) it'd still be a little hard to follow just because of the …
