What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise ARKOS as a solid retro-shooter that successfully captures the spirit of early 90s dungeon crawlers, with some ranking it among the best in the genre and appreciating its focused, bite-sized level design. However, complaints center on balance issues in the final episode, where difficulty spikes significantly and force players to rely on weak weapons, leading to frustrating lengthy boss fights, though some players still found the game enjoyable enough to purchase the sequel despite these problems.
ARKOS, developed and published by RetroSouls, is a compact first-person fantasy shooter that proudly embraces the spirit of early 1990s dungeon crawlers while introducing a distinctive voxel-based visual identity. Rather than chasing modern realism or sprawling open-world design, it focuses on delivering a tightly constructed, old-school action experience centered on spellcasting, labyrinthine corridors, and methodical exploration. Players step into the role of a white wizard named Arkos, venturing deep into dangerous strongholds in search of a powerful artifact once wielded by his missing mentor. The narrative framework is simple and direct, serving primarily as motivation for the descent into increasingly perilous environments, but it effectively anchors the adventure in a classic fantasy quest structure. Visually, ARKOS sets itself apart through its fully voxel-based world. Every wall, enemy, projectile, and environmental object is built from volumetric blocks rather than flat sprites or high-polygon models. This gives the game a tangible, almost sculpted aesthetic that feels reminiscent of early 3D fantasy shooters like Heretic or Hexen, while still maintaining a distinct pers…1 found this helpful
Easily one of the best in the retro-shooter genre.
Just play Wizordum instead.
All around good game until you get to the last episode then it falls apart. It may of bugged but I had to use the weakest weapon for the final ep and I died to the last boss but I'm not wasting my time trying to beat it like that as 30 minutes fights are no fun. Hopefully the second game fixes this.
This game is a lot like another of my favorite fantasy games...u know the game WIZORDUM. ARKOS is so cool I even decided to purchase ARKOS II with 1. I love this genre of games...keep em comin 👻 👽
Левел по 5-10 минут. Подходит вместо перекура. За свою цену норм. 6.1/10
