Morbid: The Lords of Ire

Tried to play at least an hour, but the performance is one of the worst i have experienced on pc. I can forgive some stutters if the game is good or at least looks good, this game has neither. It's like the devs wanted to add pieces of a bunch of different fromsoft games and other souls likes and in doing so they had a bad performing game with no identity and mediocre graphics. Morbid: The Lords of Ire is not difficult. It is simply tedious. Unfortunately, I could not finish this game and this is the very first souls-like game I drop. I tried to love it, but it kept throwing bullsh*t back at me. The biggest problem with the combat is that parrying is not just one option, it feels like it is the only option that actually matters. Normal attacks do pathetic damage, even after upgrading your weapon, while parries and ripostes do the real work. As a result, most fights quickly become the same repetitive loop: wait for an attack, parry, punish, repeat. This becomes especially noticeable with bosses and minibosses. Once you understand their very limited move sets, there is almost no challenge left. You are not learning complex patterns, adapting your build or looking for different openings; you are simply performing the same parry dozens of times until their oversized health bar finally disappears. I defeated the first boss on my second serious attempt without even using a heal, simply by parrying over and over again. It was not satisfying, it was boring AF. Progression is somehow even worse. Enemies give very little XP, gaining a single point takes far too…

Game is great! Not AAA, but for the price, I was gladly surprised. Combat is fun, which is the most important aspect.

Played it through doing everything except one side quest. Only once though so no NG+, did think about it but maybe later. This was a good experience. I wasn't that fond of it at first. It felt stiff and slow, very difficult even. I know it's the deal but having played a few of these it felt overly hard. This, ladies and gentlemen and all others, was most definitely a skill issue. As I kept hitting my head against the first boss I reached a dead end. This is not possible. Then I decided to try some early introduced mechanics that I hadn't used before and my word was it fun after that. It was at times like rhythmic dancing with the opponents and THAT I can do. The game suddenly turned almost easy, like not EASY easy but compared. Weapon upgrade mechanics were simple and understandable. Getting "levels" or upgrade points to your skills, well, it was done by finding and equipping a limited amount of power-ups. I felt that you got the most important ones right from the start and they gave their most usable skill without upgrading so it wasn't that meaningful. The game looks good. good mechanics, not big on souls-like games but enjoyed this feels a bit unfinished though, like the developer ran out of money or something
