Looking past the fact that is is Mystic Quest at its core... and while there are many changes to diversify this title (Think Full Metal Alchemist / FMA Brotherhood). The game is currently NOT completable at this time. There's a bug that halts all progress very deep into the game. The developer has yet to even acknowledge that this exists. Sale or not, I'd stay away from this until its fixed. (4/24 update, fixes, but not this game stopping one) edit: I'll update this when the progress stopping bug is actually fixed. (4/24 has finally acknowledged the bug) edit: 5/9 The bug in the tower has been fixed, so progress can at least be continued (I'll try to get around to it soon).

I won this game in a giveaway, and was looking forward to playing it, however in the 25 minutes I tried to play, it crashed 3 times and there was an island in the town which you get stuck on after jumping on the log to get to it you can't come back and have to reload. looks cute though reminded me of an old school final fantasy mystic quest.. but alas it was not to be.. I'll keep an eye out for a patch and maybe try again someday.

I’m not going to write a dedicated feedback post or review now; instead, I’m just copying (just one of the feedbacks) what I already shared with the developers in the discussion section. It should be enough, however, to convey an impression of the game. The key bindings menu (accessed via F1) isn't working correctly—neither with the keyboard nor the controller. For instance, there are separate input slots for "Menu" and "Back," allowing you to assign them to different keys. I assigned these two functions to different keys. However, when I press the assigned "Menu" key on the overworld map, nothing happens. If I press the "Back" key on the overworld map, the menu opens. Pressing the "Back" key again closes the menu. If I press the assigned "Menu" key while in a village, the hero draws his sword... What a mess... These are the absolute basics every normal player handles before starting a game. You go into the settings first to check that everything is right... especially the controls... And you guys didn't notice this?! When you open the character menu, it says "Shift for info" in the bottom left... but absolutely nothing happens when I press "Shift"... What is going on there…

Jacob's Quest Anniversary Edition is regrettably not as good as it could be, in its current form. Older builds of the game showed a much more sleak presentation and more consistent visual style. - Seemingly uses AI-generated graphics without any attribution on the Steam store page. - The graphics itself are a weird hodgepodge without any tonal or stylistic consistency, with sprites sizes varying way too much. - Despite working on a tile-based grid, the game now uses more "modern" backgrounds, resulting in a world that is confusing to navigate because the graphics do not match the allowed movement options. - Perspective issues in various locations. - Gameplay is extremely unbalanced, with both damage output and experience/gold varying so much between encounters that you might as well just save-scum until you get better RNG. Let's call a spade a spade: This is Mystic Quest Legend/Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. To me, that is reason enough to buy and play this game, because I really like MQL. Apart from the legal grey area (Square should really bring more from their back catalogue onto modern storefronts), the changes made to the game are questionable and the constant updates have tur…

I love that this game is a remake of a game I loved as a child. Can't wait for the next one!
