Paper Kingdom is a card-driven colony management and strategy game that turns the development of a small medieval society into an organized tabletop-style experience. Developed and published by obece, it begins with the modest circumstances of a nomadic tribe and gradually expands the player's responsibilities toward creating a prosperous settlement and, ultimately, a kingdom. Instead of presenting civilization management through a conventional sprawling map filled with detailed structures and units, the game represents much of its economy and progression through cards. This creates an accessible presentation while preserving the satisfaction of gathering resources, assigning workers, developing production chains, and steadily improving a growing community. Resource management forms the foundation of the experience. Different locations provide materials that are necessary for survival and expansion, including forests, mines, quarries, and seas. The challenge is not simply accumulating as much material as possible, but understanding how available resources can be transformed into useful products. As the settlement develops, increasingly complex requirements encourage players to thi…

I've had a great time with Paper Kingdom so far! I've found that there are a variety of ways to build our your village to effectively provide enough resources and defenses, and I enjoyed that you can choose to be more passive or aggressive with your neighbors (At the cost of leveling resources more slowly if you choose to be more passive) I did run into an issue that prevented me from loading saved games, but the developer was extremely helpful. I was able to reach them by email for assistance, where they quickly responded and diligently worked on the issue over a few days to make sure everything was working properly. I sincerely appreciated the help and level of communication! Great to see developers that are that committed to maintaining their games and working out any bugs

Not very fun. The idea has some potential but the gameplay is pretty dull. The random events are frustrating at best. Attempting to build up a village means being raided by actual military units before I even have an axeman.

There's a lot to like about this. The ideas are solid. Really enjoy the automation side of things too. But ultimately the UX is overly clunky, the whole UI could do with some major polish, and the fact it's only Ironman mode is frustrating when things can easily go wrong in the automation queue and it's easy to miss. With a bit more work it could be a lot better. And it seems the dev is working hard on it. So I will give it a thumbs up to counter the Mixed.
