About The Caribou Trail

THE CARIBOU TRAIL - Home before the leaves fall, they thought.

Gallipoli, 1915.

Far from home, Fisher leaves his quiet harbor town in Newfoundland to join the British war effort with his friends. They expect a short-lived adventure full of tales to bring back home. What awaits them is not glory, but dirt, loss… and a touch of madness. The quiet gestures that hold a regiment together, the impossible choices, the weight of survival and... well, dubious stews no one back home would dare to call edible. The Caribou Trail is a visceral, first-person narrative experience about a band of friends sent on some of the most unlikely missions of the Great War.Inspired by real testimonies, The Caribou Trail blends history with fiction to portray a rarely explored front of WWI: Gallipoli, from the landing to the final evacuation.Cut through barbed wire in no man’s land on a desperate reconnaissance mission, silence a sniper holding the line, and make noise during a chaotic evacuation. Each step is experienced through your own eyes.Yet this is not about winning the war, it’s about enduring it. Explore the back lines, feel the weight of anticipation, stumble through the trenches, reclaim the dog tags of fallen comrades, and share stories with those who still have the strength to speak. Sit by the fire, share ghostly tales (that may or may not be true), and find warmth around the campfire. When the time comes, you may choose to pull the trigger… or not. Every gesture brings you closer to the men who laugh beside you… and fall before you. There is no score. No kill count. Only resilience, fleeting friendship, and the fragile hope of making it home.War may take everything, but it also builds bonds. You and your companions are not hardened soldiers, but ordinary men: fishermen, dreamers, storytellers; cooking fish’n’brews in battered pots, laughing at bad jokes, and clinging to one another when silence grows too heavy. In the chaos, these small rituals become lifelines - reminders of who you are, and of who's fighting alongside you. What begins as survival becomes brotherhood, etched into memory long after the guns fall silent.Gordon - Insufferable and lovable. Always the center of attention. He'll crack a joke or roast you at the worst moment possible, but he'll be there for you no matter what.Lonnie - A whimsical, dreamy kid who doesn't belong, but still strives to do his best. What he lacks in military prowess, he compensates with his warmth and spirit. He'll even share a good spooky story or two to change the mood…Fisher - You are the middle brother, constantly defusing (or participating in) Gordo and Lon's bickering. In the face of the war's horrors, you define Fisher's willingness to see things as they are, or instead delve into superstitious escapism. These are the faces you will remember long after Gallipoli. When night falls, the line between reality and imagination blurs. Are the shadows in the trenches just tricks of the firelight, or spirits drawn to the living? In The Caribou Trail, folklore and psychological horror intertwine, echoing how soldiers made sense of a world that no longer did. What you find may not change history, but it might change you.
  • Visceral First-Person ExperienceFeel the closeness of the trenches, the weight of silence, cut through barbed wire, crawl across no man’s land.
  • Narrative ExplorationExplore the camp between battles: the waiting, the daily lives of ordinary soldiers, and the quiet moments that speak louder than combat.
  • Friendship & HumorShare ghost stories, laugh with comrades, and improvise suspicious stew together because survival is found in warmth and laughter, not in gunfire.
  • Folklore & Psychological HorrorFace the blurred line between reality and myth as campfire tales echo into the darkness.
  • Inspired by Real EventsRooted in historical testimonies and the legacy of those who lived through Gallipoli.
  • Original Score & Immersive Sound DesignA haunting and gut-wrenching soundtrack paired with realistic ambient sounds to reflect the emotional weight of each moment.
  • Stylized VisualsA semi-stylized art direction inspired by archival photography, evoking memory, loss, and timelessness.

Overall thoughts: As someone interested in the history of WWI, this game was a nice short experience about a group of b'ys (newfoundland boys) deployed to Galipoli in 1915. The point of this game is to tell a story first and foremost and as such it lacks in the gameplay department. If you are interested in WWI and are okay with few game play mechanics, This game has a nice story to tell and I recommend it. I hope the devs get a chance to make something else. Gameplay: This is an interactive walking simulator with very few game play mechanics. Mostly Making Soup! Story: The point of this game is to tell a story about a coupla b'ys from a newfoundland regiment in WWI and honor those b'ys. This is a short, emotional story that sets up its emotional beat, and executes it well. Since the game is rather short, the setup and pay off are almost sequential and thus felt less impactful. Visuals: The game's aesthetics betray some of the "horrors of war" visuals the game goes for. However there are some standout moments of tension that cut through the game's looks. Audio: The sounds and music of the game are phenomenal

Very deep and emotional but the optimisation was quite bad and navigating in those trenches with that map was tinkering with my brain

MUST PLAY! What a wounderful story, it caputres the feeling of what it was like to be in one of those trenches. The mateship and sacrifice of all men in WWI will never be forgoten and this type of game carries/helps their memery stay alive for generations to come. Please make more games like this! The only thing I have to say is make the game longer! It was over to quickly and it made me want more to experience.
