✦ AI summary

Players appreciate this short indie horror game for its atmospheric audio design and creepy ambiance, with the budget price making it a worthwhile experience for some. However, common complaints center on the brevity (around 30 minutes), slow movement mechanics that pad playtime, cheap jump scares, weak story, and repetitive backtracking that feels tedious rather than engaging, with some finding it feels lazily assembled compared to the developer's other works.

Fun little short game. Worth a play especially if on sale.

Unknown Host ended up being a really pleasant surprise. I'll admit, I didn't go into this one expecting much. It was a smaller indie horror game that I picked up as part of a bundle, so I figured it would be a fun way to kill an hour or two. Instead, I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. The game is fairly short, but I actually think that's one of its strengths. It doesn't drag things out or overcomplicate the experience. It gets in, delivers a few solid scares, and tells its story without overstaying its welcome. Visually, the game looked better than I expected. The graphics were well done, the environments were creepy, and everything came together to create a solid atmosphere. The jumpscares were also handled pretty well. They weren't constant, but there were enough of them to keep me on edge throughout the playthrough. What impressed me most was just how polished the experience felt for a smaller indie title. Everything worked the way it was supposed to, and the game delivered exactly what I was hoping for—a fun, creepy horror experience without trying to be something it wasn't. Overall, Unknown Host exceeded my expectations. It's not going to compete with the biggest names …

[[[[ NO SPOILERS ]]]] Video Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDZcuxcaM5c Frankly I'm shocked these games get so many positive reviews when it's literally the exact same game over and over. Here's a summary, some young man gets kidnapped by a serial killer with a mannequin fetish, low res body horror ensues and they never find you... I'm going to try one more of Redsroll's games and I swear to GOD if I see a single mannequin I'm quitting right then and there and demanding a refund. For other horror games I promise you'll like give these a try: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQTmUby5Dx3i00k2G_j7qILaINagnRUbv

Good heavens, this most lamentable contrivance known as Unknown Host did furnish an evening of profound disappointment and creeping irritation, wherein one encountered naught but a hollow void amid an atmosphere thick with technical affliction and unspoken banality, all whilst frustration and regret waltzed most clumsily hand in hand.

This was a pretty decent short horror game, about 30 mins or so. I got it on sale so it was even better. It scared me a few times, good jump scares and ALWAYS with the MANNEQUINS. Check out my gameplay here: https://youtu.be/GzxO9zs_WPg

This would be maybe 15 minutes long if the movement wasn't so slow. Walking up and down several flights of stairs multiple times just to get into the apartment uses a good portion of that time. The chase sequence commences as the text prompt to run using the shift key appears on the screen (leaving little reaction time), while in you're in a maze-like hallway with a dead end. Not a fan of this, or chases in general. Having played "Who am I?", which had some substance, I thought I'd give the other Redsroll games a chance. Sadly, there's not much going on here. Thin story and one puzzle, with similar assets, functions, and environments (including the aforementioned chase scenario) as the other games gives the impression that it was lazily thrown together. Redsroll has potential and has demonstrated such, but Unknown Host isn't a good example.
