✦ AI summary

Mai: Child of Ages is a time-bending platformer with an ambitious concept and charming Ocarina of Time-inspired world design that improves as players unlock more abilities, but it's held back by janky controls, inconsistent difficulty spikes, occasional soft-locks, and combat that feels underdeveloped—particularly in early sections. Players appreciate the core puzzle mechanics and the game's charm despite its rough edges, suggesting it's worth trying but with tempered expectations about its technical polish.

At first i wasn't too sure, it is quite janky at times and can be really hard to know where to go, however when i got more jumping skills you basically can get anywhere so easily and the game got much better as it went on. However, The combat isn't great, especially before the shield and there are moments where i found myself softlocked. But overall i see its charm, its a great nod to Ocarina of Time

The core concept is honestly pretty neat. You start out as little Mai doing mundane farm chores for your grandfather, and within thirty minutes you're hopping through time portals via the Uroboro Stone, switching between your childhood self and an older, action-hero teenager version to solve environmental puzzles. The world design is ambitious—you're jumping between lush ancient ruins and bleak, decaying dystopian futures ruined by an apocalyptic war. When a time-bending puzzle hits, it feels clever. Unfortunately, the developer Chubby Pixel clearly bit off way more than they could chew. The game’s biggest enemy isn’t the time-monsters; it’s the controls. Mai moves like she's permanently wearing soap-covered socks on ice. Precision platforming sections quickly devolve into an exercise in frustration because your jump arc feels floaty and unpredictable. The hack-and-slash combat as teen Mai lacks impact—you're basically swinging a floaty weapon at enemies with zero hit feedback until one of you falls over. To make matters worse, the levels are *massive*, but so empty. You will spend huge stretches of time just holding the stick forward across vast, barren maps praying that you’re…
