Quartermain and the Cult of Cthulhu

This is a budget first-person shooter made mostly by one person. Quatermain looked amateurish at first and didn't give a good first impression, but it improved as it went along, especially in terms of level designs which I often found surprisingly well done. This 3D engine called Easy FPS Editor looked like something between Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. In fact, the game had a strong Wolf 3D vibe but with actual outside levels and elevations. Graphics didn't look particularly good, but they were decent enough for that type of retro FPS. Textures often got blurrier the closer I got as if there was a filter to hide pixels, and I didn't like that. The game controlled well enough with mouse and keyboard except perhaps for jumping where I sometimes felt it didn't register instantly. I felt confortable sniping enemies from afar, which was a big plus. I did not care one bit for the big notes above every single box of ammo or the instructions to press E every single time. I did not need the total number of secrets found, secrets in this level and bodycount always visible on the top left of the screen either. For it's low price, there is a surprising amount of good content. I will say some of the enemies and weapons felt a little strangely balanced, the heavy machine gun was a weapon I ended up not really using because it felt so weak in comparison to even the colt, a full mag isn't even enough to cut down a thunder mage. The shotgun is bafflingly inaccurate and can't be used to cut down swarms of enemies, unlike the shotgun enemy's version which is just a tight burst that deals quite a bit of damage. There were also odd almost gimmicks that appeared and disappeared just as quick. Armor appears in like one level and then just vanishes again.

Yeah, it's trash, but it's fun. For thee bux you can do a lot worse. This game captures a lot of what made 90's corridor shooters fun, and a lot of what made them forgotten. The arsenal is doom clone in the wrong order. The levels are abstract at best. Enemies are seemingly dotted all over the place. Don't take it seriously, and you will have a good time.

Pretty fun efps game. Has a cool ww2/occult/sci fi theme. Nice voice acting. One thing I would ask for is the removal of text from the ammo pickups, it really clutters the screen. Other then that its a fun time for a low price.

What if someone released a good Indiana Jones game back in the 90s? And what if it was as good as best Doom clones of the time? Here, you have it, full of nazis and their wunderwaffe, as well as all sorts of cultists and ton of secrets, chef's kiss!
