About A Void Hope

Set out on a journey through a harsh and unforgiving city

These waters... You know, sometimes I feel them rising in me. Dark and suffocating. Like something growing. A beast.

A Void Hope takes you on an atmospheric narrative adventure to find a cure for a collapsed city. Follow the story of a tormented couple as they try to decipher reality from nightmares and evade the shadowy threats lurking in the dark.

An immersive experience

  • Solve puzzles, find items and progress through the story in this world brimming with mysterious ambiance

Something lurks in the shadows

  • Crisp retro aesthetics combined with atmospheric lighting shows a world in darkness but with small slivers of hope

Avoid combat, embrace exploration

  • Delve into an adventure filled with danger and make your way through the city avoiding the threats that come your way

A haunting soundtrack

  • Composed by synthwave mastermind Waveshaper, an eerie and evocative landscape of music accompanies your every step

A Void Hope’s compelling mystery and carefully-crafted ambiance is supported by puzzle platforming mechanics that require you to solve puzzles and find items as you traverse the city. There are dangerous threats wandering the streets too, but your goal is to avoid conflict in this narrative-focused adventure where unwinding the threads of the unknown by exploring the secrets of the city’s physical space, along with the psychological space of your struggling protagonists, will be your primary focus.

A short and immersive experience enjoyed best in a single sitting on a rainy, dark night.

I had no heard of this Elden Pixel game before, but I love their games, so I gave it a go. A game where people are losing their memories and becoming monsters. The heroes travel through the city, one trying to remember and one trying to find a cure. Like most Elden Pixel games, it's a bit of a vania and you never know who is going to turn into a monster and sometimes you don't even know which monster they'll be. The more dog like are quick, but you can jump over them, others fly and are the hardest to deal with. Not the best from Elden Pixels, but still worth a go.

It’s a simple pixel platformer focused on jumping and climbing with a sad family story. It took me an hour to get almost to the end. There are several areas but they are similar, once you’ve played the first one you’ve seen everything, just shooting switches and zombies and doing more climbing up and down. I played as far as I could but eventually the only path led to a dead end with a panel showing locks. I assume it's a hint to go back and replay previous levels but I had no interest. The main reason I pushed as far as I did was because I knew that if I quit I wouldn’t come back to play again. I’m giving it a positive because I got a key for a dollar on Fanatical, the full price of $15.99 is not worth it. A Void Hope is an OK puzzle platformer, which did keep me entertained enough to finish it, but this game does not really offer anything special. The visuals and the soundtrack are great and the platforming is decent, but the story is pretty shallow and disappointing. Also, I could have done without the enemy encounters -- they're not hard or frustrating, but I felt that they were more of a nuisance. I bought this game during a sale for less than 5€ and for that price it was worth it, so this is a barely thumbs up in my book.

A Void Hope presents a melancholic urban decay, where the evocative pixel art aesthetic is bolstered by an eerie and awesome soundtrack. This sonic layering ensures each area feels distinct, drawing the player deeper into a world where memories serve as the primary catalyst for unravelling a poignant, character-driven mystery. Exploration relies upon an intricate, metro-style network that rewards those who diligently uncover shortcuts between disparate city districts. Whilst the absence of a traditional map initially invites confusion when recalling the precise locations of locked doors, this design choice compels a more meaningful engagement with the haunting, interconnected environment. Combat provides a functional complement to the primary puzzle-platforming loops, utilising a simple yet punchy firearm alongside a versatile stunning mechanic. One cannot walk whilst aiming, which necessitates careful movement during skirmishes, particularly when dealing with the aerial bird adversaries that prove remarkably tiresome to track compared to ground-based foes. Progression feels consistently satisfying as the acquisition of vital equipment like crowbars and fuel allows one to bypass…
