Abyss: New Dawn

sept/25 This is a really cool game idea, and it's being updated a lot constantly, but it's also in a super-pre-alpha state where things are constantly changing, and you lose all your progress, and there is no shortcuts. So unless you want to work your own CE tables and make your own debug menu to actually DO some testing, your work will get constantly reset, and it's VERY grindy. Its survival-lite, but they haven't actually figured out what they want to do yet, so while it's fun and engaging, it's only fun for so many times before you get sick of having to redo all your work, and since there's no other options, every time you start you have to spend another 2 hours just gathering mats from multiple worlds you made, to get your tools and weapons up. Its got a good loop, but right now it takes too long and I can't recommend it. It's a great idea though and I hope to change this review in the future.

This is a cute survival game! It's low stress enough that it doesn't discourage me from playing, but also has enough tasks and challenge to keep the game engaging! For anyone who likes survival games but doesn't want it to be too difficult/scary, this game is perfect. My husband even wants to play this with me :) It has taken me a little bit to learn how to play since there isn't really a tutorial phase or anything, but the devs communicate sooo well through Discord and answer any questions as well as put out almost daily updates to improve the game. Abyss: New Dawn hasn't been out very long, but I'm already trying to get my friends to get it and play with me haha.

This game is really fun and the devs are devoted on improving this game. There is a big update coming soon and I'm so excited. If you like farming combat building and discovering secrets this is the game for you.

Abyss: New Dawn is still very much an Early Access game, but it already has an excellent foundation. Between its surprisingly solid gameplay and the transparency of the developer, it feels like it has the potential to become one of the best indie games I've played in quite some time. One of the biggest strengths of the game is its developer. They are highly active on the official Discord, regularly responding to bug reports, investigating issues, and considering community suggestions. They're also actively working toward Steam Deck compatibility. Despite Valve currently listing the game as unsupported, it already runs remarkably well on the Steam Deck in my experience. As for the gameplay, it's an interesting blend of several genres. Imagine the creature taming of Ark: Survival Evolved, including dinosaurs and other creatures like slimes, combined with the farming mechanics of Stardew Valley. Then add some of the building elements from Craftopia and the combat style of Rune Factory, all wrapped in a charming anime-inspired presentation. That's probably the closest comparison I can make to what Abyss: New Dawn currently offers. Will the game stay exactly the same? Probably not. W…
