Adventure Jampilation

Some great selections of point-and-click games made for a game jam competition over the years. If I were to replay these games again, I would start with Dinner at the Gugas (2024), The Death of Fo-gu (2024), and then Mutiny on the Clodia (2021).

1) The Halloween Party -- Two thumb upward, well-written and fun little adventure. 2) Duty First -- Two thumb upward. Very funny, love this kind of dopey-protagonist degenerate inconsequential adventure. 3) Nebraska Smith and the Mask of Minkhamanna -- Two thumb upward. Surprising graphical change. Very funny as usual, clever puzzle solutions. 4) Mutiny on the Clodia -- One thumb upward. A lot of the actions feel pointless and something stupid made me stuck for a quite a while. It's fine. 5) The Will of Arthur Flabbington -- One thumb upward. Very little to actually interact with. Adventure itself is just okay. Seems like it should have more than one ending, but it does not. 6) Where Wolf? -- One thumb upward. Generally cute, but the puzzles are all miserably nonsensical and moon logic, save for one which was quite clever. 7) No Rest For the Wicked -- Two thumb upward, very funny, well-written and the puzzles are clever, although one in particular is not explained well enough and that lead to issues. 8) Dinner at the Gugas -- Two thumb upward, very cute. Absolultely fantastic little selection of mini games for FREE! Honestly I found myself wishing that several of these were full length games. I didn't love them all, but overall a selection of well written, funny, clever games with original concepts and stories and really great puzzles. My favourites were Where Wolf? and No Rest for the Wicked and Duty First (I'd already played the full length version of the amazing Will of Arthur Flabbington). Gu Games - please please please make MORE full length games - you really are SO brilliant at this genre. PS plays fine on SteamDeck - I had no issues.

The Jampilation is, much like its content, a genius idea. It’s the perfect itch‑scratcher when all you have is half an hour to play, laugh, and unwind, and you don’t want to commit to a longer game. Each of the 10 bite‑sized P&C adventures was created in just 14 days for various game jams, so don’t expect conclusive investigations or globetrotting adventures (though you will end up in Egypt and Transylvania after all). Still, most stories are self‑contained and offer a proper ending. What I find brilliant is the ever‑changing cast of characters, themes, situations, and gameplay ideas. There’s truly a bit of everything: raiding tombs, waking up vampires, escaping a hijacked, decrepit Italian ferry to Sardinia (google “Clodia” for a smile). Every game has a huge heart and an even bigger sense of humour. Not every experience hit the mark for me — Where Wolf? made me uncomfortable, and I didn’t particularly enjoy it — but you can absolutely feel the creative genius behind each story and puzzles. I mainly tried this because it was free, the trailer looked like it was made in a weekend (which it basically was), and I had zero expectations beyond “eh, maybe I’ll laugh once.” Ten short point-and-click adventures later and I’m here writing a review like a giddy idiot who just discovered a secret stash of gourmet snacks in the dollar bin. This is Gugames’ one-developer victory lap: every game in the bundle was cooked up in 14 days or less on a shoestring budget, yet somehow they all feel like they came from the same ridiculously talented brain. The through-line is dry humor so sharp it could slice bread. This dude doesn’t just write dialogue, he weaponizes it. Every story is a tiny, self-contained delight with wildly different vibes: some are goofy, some are surprisingly touching, and a couple had me cackling at 2 a.m. because the punchlines land like they’ve been aged in oak barrels of sarcasm. Gameplay is classic point-and-click comfort food. You click stuff, combine stuff, occasionally yell at the screen, and eventually progress. Adventure yes All of the games are good, but some are definitely better than others. I'd say my favorites are the one where you make dinner and the one where you're a tomb raider Indiana Jones dude. Because there is literally 10 games in 1, this takes forever to get through, but at least they're unique. 6/10. Not exactly my cup of tea, but still good for something free.
