Alice in Disguise

Pretty good if you want something that'll keep you occupied for about 1 hour. Interesting core gameplay, good interaction between the elements.

The idea is great and fun and simple. The implementation is BROKE. You can't simply push the up arrow to go up, you must first push the up arrow and then another arrow key to actually get movement going. Then, on like literally the second small board, you get into a piece that will only go down and not left or right. And that is cool but, YOU HAVE TO GO LEFT to get to the door. I mean, simply play your own game and see for yourself and fix it if you want people to play it.

Alice in Disguise is a really clever little puzzle game, and I liked the way it turns chess movement into a stealth mechanic. Alice is trying to rescue her friends from the Red Queen, but instead of simply sneaking around enemies normally, she disguises herself as different chess pieces and has to move according to their rules. I found that idea surprisingly effective because it makes something familiar feel completely different. The chess based movement is the main reason I enjoyed the puzzles. Different guards follow different movement patterns, and when Alice takes on their appearance she can move in the same way. That means I have to think carefully about where I can go and how I can stay out of sight. I liked that the solution to a puzzle is often more about planning a route than reacting quickly. The stealth side works nicely alongside the grid based movement. I have to pay attention to enemy positions and choose the right disguise for the situation. There are also abilities that let me resize Alice, become invisible or teleport, which give me more ways to solve difficult sections. A delightfully elegant set of puzzles, and the characters of Wonderland fit the expectations one would have for them. I finished the gaem in about two hours. It's self-contained and excellently built. Definitely recommend it!
