Alice in Stardom - A Free Idol Visual Novel

Alice in Stardom is a free visual novel about Alice, a college student doing an internship at an idol competition called Supernova. Things suddenly change when one of the contestants drops out and Alice gets pushed into the competition herself. I like the setup because it gives the story an easy reason to throw Alice into a situation she was never prepared for. The idol competition is probably the most enjoyable part for me. I get to decide how Alice handles the different situations and whether she manages to stay in the competition or gets eliminated. There are also small concert minigames, which give me something to actually do between the longer sections of reading. The romance works nicely alongside the main story. There are three girls I can spend time with, and the person I build the strongest relationship with affects the ending I get. I like that the romance is not completely separate from the idol competition because it gives me another reason to think about the choices I make. Nice little Idol story with a little romance ending, good to go for free

"Alice in Stardom - A Free Idol Visual Novel" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book is square in the middle of what we expect from e-books dumped onto Steam through Steam Direct (QA? We never heard of it). It's a high school anime club dropout fan-fiction about, you guessed it, the authors harem of imaginary girlfriends, all of whom are singing idols who are just desperate to get in his pants. The cringe here goes to 11, but I'm pretty sure this was written by a junior high schooler (any alternative explanation for this much cringe is worse).
