ANNO: Mutationem

I thought it would be great, but man this felt like a mess. First off the graphics are good, the blend of 2d and 3d is awesome. The music is good too and the JP voice acting is nice. Continuing with the positives, the combat and movements are great, it feels impactful, fast and fun. Well done there. The story... Honestly at times I thought this game didn't know what it wanted to be. I thought it was cyberpunk then [spoiler]some dimensional stuff appeared, then magic with Sigrid[/spoiler], there was also going from light hearted to I guess kinda heavy, to having [spoiler]secret organisations and dimensional beings/ghosts[/spoiler]. It honestly felt all over the place, it also didn't help that our side kick Ayane was very annoying all throughout, Ann was fine I guess. Worst of all is all the loose ends, like who anyone truly is, who any team/factions are, what happened to [spoiler]Alan, the last we see is him being taken after he sends some email or uploads something, idk[/spoiler] and no concrete stuff on exactly everything he did. As well as no true answer on who that [spoiler]masked woman was[/spoiler], the story also tells us [spoiler]C was brainwashed, doesn't say by wh…

The art style is great- very nice to look at, and the soundtrack matches the vibe the game is attempting to put off. It's not a very deep, thought-provoking game, and the writing is.. something you'll have to simply ignore at times. But overall, I can /mostly/ say that it is worth the money (on sale) if you are starved for more decent, well-made cyberpunk aesthetics. P.S. Probably goes without saying, but runs very well on a docked Steam Deck.

It's nothing special, but it's not particularly bad either. The game is divided into two sections: the first part is about talking to characters, progressing the story, and doing side stuff, while the second part focuses on platforming and combat. This is actually nice because you don't waste time wandering around trying to figure out what to do next. The main characters are likable and interesting, so the game doesn't get boring. On the other hand, the story isn't anything special, but at least it has some mystery to keep you interested. At the end of the day, I had a good time with this mediocre game.

Fun, but the story really takes a nosedive at the end which brings down the rest of the game for me. The writer has some really bonkers take where [spoiler] apparently being blackmailed to work for the in universe Umbrella Corporation that has been harassing you all game and fills a sewer under the city with monsters that eat people is the good ending. [/spoiler] Whatever man, really bizarre. The bad ending is satisfying imo. Game was much easier to play on a gamepad for me, so keep that in mind if you're interested.
