Anopek is a first-person shooter using a similar engine to Wolfenstein 3d with perpendicular walls and no looking up or down. Considering the engine limitations, the levels are nice enough with bright colors. Very pretty level outside the first area with how the "reflections" were done in the water. A level in the sky was also noteworthy. I liked how the map was done and how the areas were interconnected. The graphics were made with big pixels, too much so for my tastes, especially for the few cinematics. Too few types of monsters who were boring to fight and unoriginal. No death animations either. I often stood there and just shot. As a shooter it fails, but as a Zelda/Metroidvania type exploration game it was kind of fun. Why? Because of the secondary abilities of most of the weapons. You can eventually grapple, glide, break walls and a few other things. The music was pleasant, but no music during boss fights was a big oversight. Anopek is bit tough to recommend for most gamers, but is not without its qualities. It might appeal more to kids because of the low difficulty. But the big pixels and limited 3d engine might turn them off.

A wonderful little FPS metroidvania. It's bite sized but absolutely worth it. I hope we get an Anopek 2 some day!

Anopek is a small, fun metroidvania fps. It's a small game where you go from area to area, get upgrades and move on to newer areas. It's not the biggest map ever but it's fun. There are a variety or areas to explore, enemies to face and weapons to get. The weapons often have multiple purposes. They can all be used for combat and a lot can be used for exploration and movement. The game is challenging enough without being unfair. I had a lot of fun exploring the levels and getting all the upgrades and collectables. I got lost a few times but not often enough or long enough that it became a problem. The biggest problem I have with this is that getting all the achievements doesn't count as a perfect game on your steam profile for some weird reason. It's still fun but I know this is important to some people.

This isn't an old school fps, it's metroidvania. And I guess for that alone I could rate this game negative. It has all the annoying aspects of a metroidvania: -respawning enemies -infinite ammo -a lot of backtracking -also for some reason most bosses are optional I guess it's not the worst metroidvania, but that doesn't mean much.

Pretty charming Metroidvania FPS. A bit short but it oozes personality and has some very cool boss battles! Highly recommend it!
