Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace

Love Mansions of Madness. This game sucks. Poor effort on the franchise. edit: played more. It's also a buggy pile of ♥♥♥♥. edit: I like the atmosphere but it's a rubbish game. I've never played a game that punishes you more for exploring its lore. Click the painting? EVERYONE LOSES ONE SANITY. ENEMY AMBUSH. Clicking things almost never is rewarding. But naturally you have to click random things to progress. There is no indication whatsoever which will be which. Game SUCKS

Wonderful game, sadly short.

I really wanted to like this game. It has a decent start, made you feel like you were going to have to scramble for resources and really plan it out. Throughout the game though, I mainly just shot whatever I could and clicked on anything that had a dot on it to indicate that I could search it. The combat never felt very challenging though when it did it felt almost unfair. Story kept me engaged for the first half and completely lost my interest by the end. The plot twist was pretty predictable part way through in the end of the boss lady left me feeling like I didn't beat an entire game. It is pretty, in a weird way. It does have a lot of soul in the idea and art, but it just didn't deliver. I don't regret playing through the whole thing though because I was curious about the tabletop game this is related to.

A hooded figure approached the damsel, offering her a mysterious gift. This guy wears a robe - sanity check. Your pants keep ripping in the rear area from all the stuff you keep herding about? Sanity check. You're in a public place and someone farts loudly nearby. You know it, sanity check. That being said this is one of my favourite mythos game.

It pains me to leave a negative review because I'm a huge fan of Arkham Horror's boardgames (Eldritch Horror is to this day one of my favourite boardgames of all time), so seeing characters I've interacted with many times before in videogame form was exciting...but this game is just plain awful, no way around it. The control scheme and camera are so weird I don't even know how to describe them, the combat is simplistic, the UI looks unfinished, some textures looke like they are placeholders...seriously, even if you are a fan of AH boardgames just skip this one

I'm an avid reader of Lovecraft, and a player of Fantasy Flight's "Mansions of Madness" and Arkham Horror LCG, so I'm very much the target audience for this video game. This is largely an on-rails story engine interspersed with turn-based combat, and it's great fun. Progression through each leve requires you to walk through the environment, clicking on highlighted objects. Through this, you gain clues about the story, unlock side quests, and gather useful items. Sometimes you stumble into a monster and have to fight. As you play, you collect different investigators willing to help you out. Your party size maxes out at 3, but you get more investigators than that, so you get to choose which investigators you want to bring along for each chapter. There's a roguelike-like element to this, because sometimes you don't know which investigators are best until you've played through at least part of a chapter, so you can return to the Office, re-spec your party, and start the chapter over. Your Office also serves as storage. You have limited carrying capacity, so you have to choose what gear you bring along. There are items that provide buffs, there are weapons, bandages, and spell …
