About Asterism

A distant echo of a forgotten melody. A flickering star in the night sky. The weight of an unanswered question...
Immerse yourself in the cosmic symphony of Asterism - a playable indie-rock concept album set in outer space. Follow astronaut Ruby as she embarks on an emotional journey of self-discovery through a stunning, hand-crafted solar system, unlocking a playable music video with each planet you explore.
Chasing mysterious signals from the stars, you follow the echoes of forgotten songs through the vast expanse of space. Skate across frozen seas. Paint lines across alien landscapes. And explore planets each accompanied by their own soulful soundtrack.
🚀 Indie Rock Score: Lose yourself in the raw and emotional melodies of Asterism's indie-rock soundtrack, featuring vocals and gritty electric guitar composed & performed by solo developer Claire Morwood.
🚀 Handcrafted Visuals: Explore a stunning world where digital & analogue techniques collide, featuring stop-motion ships, collage landscapes, and hand-drawn characters across a vibrant solar system.
🚀 Rich Narrative: Embark on a profound journey of discovery and introspection with a deeply emotional narrative that delves into themes of personal expression, self-acceptance, anxiety, and mental health.
🚀 Simple Controls: Asterism uses simple and intuitive controls making it easy to pick up and difficult to put down.
🚀Album Length Experience: Asterism is designed to be played in a single sitting, with approximately 2 hours of gameplay.
Solo developer, Claire Morwood, has meticulously crafted nearly every aspect of Asterism, from folding origami avatars & moulding clay lighthouses to writing & voicing the soundtrack. A culmination of years of exploration and experimentation, Asterism is a labour of love and passion that sits at the intersection of music, art, and digital storytelling.
“Asterism was inspired by the feeling of sitting on the window seat of a bus, music echoing in your ears, as you glimpse momentary details amidst the blur of passing lights.”
Claire is a self-taught game designer, artist, programmer, & co-creator of the BAFTA-nominated game Before I Forget (3-Fold Games). She is passionate about empowering others through workshops on game development, particularly in creating personal games using small tools like Bitsy.
Asterism is supported by Creative Scotland.

A delightfully raw indie creative experience that I believe is missing in most things these days. This is a game based around a music album and everything is created with entirely by motion capture crafts. If you are looking for something that is unapologetically human throughout, give this a shot. The music may not resonate with you, but the charms of the hand made textures and creativity in gameplay is well worth the price of admission. Though be aware that it is more similar to Kid A Mnesia Exhibition where it's more interactive movie than a game.

Short and sweet, Asterism is basically a playable music video in which the interaction between its music and video game dimensions manages to create an audiovisual experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Sometimes we drift 100 billion kilometers away from the people we love and that's OK.

more of a playable art exhibit than a game, but interesting and visually appealing. I liked it.
