B.Y.O.O.L. - Best Years Of Our Lives

Lucky me gets to write the first game review for BYOOL - Best Years Of Our Lives, which is not a game. It's an e-book that's been assembled with some seriously mediocre "artwork" using the seriously mediocre RenPy visual novel construction kit. Visual novel/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores), and you have your average Steam visual novel. You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamer…

This is poorly made VN. It's made in something else than Ren'py and suffers from many issues that most of "non-renpy-vns" have. First is very long transitions (around 3 s) between each text on screen. One character says -> disappears. One character on screen takes 90% of screen and you don't even get to see full face. Dev ever considered putting 2 next to each other? Besides that, story narration is chaotic and have typos. It keeps posing questions and you have no idea if you have choice in next text... (you will not, it's kinetic VN).
