Cornwall boasts itself as the home of many sorcerers, ancient kings and mythological characters. From the piskie folk of the hedgerows and clifftops to the beasts of Bodmin Moor. Developed by Shadow Tor Studios and published by Iceberg Interactive, Barrow Hill: Curse of the Ancient Circle is a classic first-person horror adventure that draws its strength from folklore, mystery, and patient exploration instead of fast-paced action. Set within the eerie countryside of Cornwall during the Autumn Equinox, the game places players in the middle of a chilling investigation surrounding an ancient burial site whose secrets have remained hidden for centuries. Inspired by Celtic mythology and archaeological history, the story gradually reveals a supernatural mystery tied to forgotten rituals, strange disappearances, and forces that should never have been disturbed. Rather than overwhelming players with spectacle, the game embraces a slow-burning narrative that rewards careful observation and curiosity. The storytelling is one of the game's defining achievements. Every abandoned location, weathered document, and mysterious relic contributes to an overarching mystery that feels grounded in authentic historical inspiration. The legend of Barrow Hill is woven naturally into the investigation, allowing the supernatural elements to emerge from genuine archaeological intrig…

classic 2006 point and click adventure that despite its technical flaws and questionable puzzle design holds a special place to me with much nostalgia

A good game but why does such a complicated plot not end with something of an explanation and achievement.

This game was so fun! Fantastic atmosphere. You're being chased around by a huge rock. Sometimes it gets you. You also get to make one-sided phone calls. Video calls. On a phone that looks like a nokia 3310 and definitely couldn't make video calls. It's so goofy and I loved every minute of it!

I enjoyed Barrow Hill's unique British charm that made it enjoyable to play as someone who isn't from anywhere near Cornwall, England. It was rich in texts to read about the world of Barrow Hill and its characters through all the journals, books, and letters scattered around the world. I wish there was more between Peter and Nancy, but that's the sliver of romantic in me. It plays out leaning more towards psychological horror with the atmosphere building a sense of unease of being watched by the ... "elements." Overall a great point and click game. Can't wait to play the sequel.

Barrow Hill is a great little time-capsule of a game - it feels just so early 2000s. The graphics are wonderful and atmospheric in a way that can only be captured by pre-rendered scenes, and everything has this spooky jank that is so charming. I never found myself scared, but I was pleasantly unnerved. The gameplay too, is very typical of a 2000s point and click. You're gonna have to figure out some weird puzzles, not know where anything is, and generally be confused. Feel no shame from using a guide, particularly if you're not used to how these games work. Running the game in 2026 isn't particularly forgiving, however. While the game does run out of the box, I'd recommend looking into something like "dxwnd" to give you a little more freedom with the settings/resolution etc. Shoutout to the guy in the office.
