About Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes

Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is a survival fleet-management roguelite with procedural narrative design and real-time space battles. Shoulder the heavy burden of leadership as you make critical decisions for your fleet’s survival under constant pressure.

You command a fleet of survivors relentlessly chased by the Cylon Fleet. Each new run represents another desperate attempt to rejoin Humanity’s last hope: the Battlestar Galactica.Prepare, fight, and survive at all costs. So say we all. Fleet Management phases offer limited turns to prepare until the next inevitable Cylon assault. As the enemy draws closer, designate priorities to ensure your fleet’s survival:
  • Dispatch expeditions to nearby points of interest for resources
  • Allocate supplies and personnel to resolve urgent situations
  • Upgrade ships for survivability and firepower
  • Train crew to improve efficiency in and out of combat
Your decisions continuously affect the Fleet’s overall status: faction politics, healthcare, and maintenance levels. Each indicator dynamically triggers narrative events tailored to your fleet’s condition. Your fleet’s fate can evolve in drastic ways if you’re not careful: epidemics, critical system malfunctions, or even a full-blown civil war.In times of crisis, the Fleet looks to you to make hard decisions. Given your limited resources and time, determine if your fleet can afford to solve a crisis immediately or suffer its negative effects over time. Perhaps the most challenging crisis you’ll face will be discovering a Cylon has infiltrated your ranks: investigating suspects will cost resources, but taking too long will cost lives.
The Cylon Fleet overwhelmingly outnumbers you. Each encounter is about survival, not victory. Fight high-risk tactical battles while your fleet prepares an FTL jump to safety.
  • Coordinate frontline squadrons with powerful Gunstar strikes in real time
  • Use Tactical Pause at any time to preview your attacks and enemy movements
  • Create synergies to deploy enemy-specific strategies by leveraging your unit strengths and unique abilities.
Rejoining the Battlestar Galactica is a perilous mission with no margin for error. Most fleets will fail, but each attempt will provide new ways to overcome the unforgiving odds stacked against your survival.
  • Unlock up to four starting fleets, each with its own unique playstyle
  • Clear trials to access additional squadron units, gunstar weapons, and modifiers that will appear in your next run
  • Invest in valuable meta upgrades that will benefit all future fleets you command
  • Challenge higher difficulty levels to test your limits as a commander

tl;dr: the devs' care and attention to detail is evident, and this is a Great Game, For a game that is so committed to RNG, it's remarkably well balanced. And it's frakking beautiful: both as a tactical challenge that constantly keeps you on your heels, and in its UX design. But the unrelenting RNG makes it hard to narrate a story of earned progress, and that's immersion-breaking. Instead of providing a coherent story that could entertain when told, I get a fever dream wherein I pick the least-useless level-up perk. Fate, it seems, is just a number you can use to make re-runs easier. Case in point, from my last run: My scrappy fleet is closing in on the Galactica's homing signal. One more jump, and we're free of this nightmare. 33 seconds away from rest. It's been... a journey. I wanted to believe that we could reconcile with the Cylons, even after the genocide. But every time we encounter one of their philosophers or priests, they just offer a few words of schoolyard rationale for their divine righteousness, as cover for launching a nuke towards the remnants of humankind. My X.O, Jackson (Youssef when we're off duty) had been climbing the ranks, earning his stripes many tim…

Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes — 7/10 Good if you love Battlestar — nails the atmosphere and tension early on. Gets a bit repetitive after a few runs, but worth it if you loved the show.

As a big fan of the show, this captures the desperation and complication of the series perfectly, having just finished the wanderers, I am truly excited to play the next three scenarios. The re-playability value is just fantastic, Just expect to get your butt handed to you... a lot!

"Best FTL since FTL!" Before we begin as an FTL like you will be screwed over extremely hard by RNG there is nothing you can do about that sometimes the game just decides that this is where your run finishes. You will need to use all of your skills to try and mitigate this inherent screwing. Juggling multiple different crisis is to figure out a way to resolve all of them in the least moves possible. Sometimes you are just gifted good rng like that time my Raptor with the sniper cannon kept stacking rate of fire and range not too crazy until it was combined with a damage bonus the further away a target was the more damage it did. Or when the heavy fighter passively heals constantly and every time it defeats an enemy with taunt so you can keep them bunched up a good distance away from the mentioned sniper. Live for the overpowered synergy you discover because you will not enjoy them again. Six hours in playing on legendary difficulty I really thought I was going to beat my first campaign. Strong start a snow balling fleet providing me with enough resources. I tried to imagine each playthrough as its own series and this had all the drama. Coming down to a final crunch with my defend…

A fun survival game, great for fans of Battlestar Galactica.

As is evident in my playtime, big fan of the game. It released with quite a few bugs, but they're addressed now. The devs have made a few balance changes (the community provides feedback in the discord), but I grinded out the game to my satisfaction before anything was fixed. I'm a huge fan of the series and they did well to capture its tone within a roguelite. With the format naturally comes a level of formula to the narrative events and crises, but once you've seen an event, you have the option to skip dialogue and go straight to the crisis decision. The devs are still fixing the balance of faction influences and maintenance/healthcare levels and, with enough interest, have shown openness to adding more content for us franchise diehards (say, more narrative paths, fleets, powers, rewards). The core gameplay loop is fulfilling and varied. As with any game, once you've invested the amount of time I have, you'll be able to construct a tier list of weak and strong options. This is part of the fun of discovering and figuring things out. True, dodgers are insanely annoying and unfair -- deal with it. Accept the loss of your ships and damage you could have avoided and roleplay being t…
