About Beep's Escape

Beep's Escape is a non-too-subtle nod to the ZX Spectrum games of the 1980s, in particularly the Dizzy franchise of action-adventure games.

You take control of Beep, a brave yet cavalier robot who is on a mission to escape from the strange tech facility that he and his fellow bots are being held captive in. Using just your wits and the items you find around you, will you help Beep find a route to safety?

Features

 • Lots of old-school platforming, some of which will test your skills.
 • Puzzles galore. Use items in unusual ways to solve puzzles and progress!
 • Talk to your fellow worker bots for clues and help.
 • Watch out for a host of hazards, including the feared guard bots!
 • Built in CRT filter and authentic ZX Spectrum loading sequence, for real retro feels!

Adventure titles of all kinds once had a rather unique dominance over the video gaming market back in a time period where text adventure games for home consoles were finally starting to evolve past the most basic level concept of gameplay into a new world of visual graphics where one can not only read what is going on but see the world and its characters play out in action on their glass-screened monitors. This lead to many consoles taking full advantage of the rapidly-growing technology during the 80s that gave many the opportunity to engage in this new medium and, with it, all of the wonders and joys to be shared with people looking to experience a fun hobby full of promising potential. To that end, the ZX Spectrum was one of the most popular consoles to make use of the earliest of graphics, particularly noteworthy for its colour-coded 'attribute blocks' that is displayed in 8x8 chunks which, whilst only implemented as a result of technical constraints of the era, is a rather iconic part of these particular games originating from this console that made it so memorable for millions of early retro gamers from back then. It's why I have to give credit where it is due as Beep's Esc…

Really enjoyed this game. finding the circuit boards was tough. you need to search everything! could do with a completion achievement or something? just ends and doesn't even go back to the menu? other than that, i recommend it.
Very Good at What It Does
Beep's Escape is some fine "Dizzy-Adjacent Gaming". If you don't remember Dizzy, it was a series of games best known for its ZX Spectrum entries that were a third action-platformer, a third Metroid-like, and a third point-and-click-adventure. You wander a world, collecting items and managing your extremely limited inventory space, using those items to solve puzzles and open up more bits of the world to hopefully collect more items. Along the way, you're also trying to grab all of a given trinket. This game has all of that, including numerous red herring items that serve no actual purpose, and a fun easter egg or two. It isn't a particularly long game, but you'll enjoy it if you liked the Dizzy games, or the idea of them appealed to you.

Very retro, love the art and the music and it has a beautiful CRT filter too! Hard, like a lot of platformers from the era, but then I also don't play many in general so possible a case of needing to "get good" Cute robot too!

A love letter to old ZX Spectrum games without ever feeling like it's taking the wrong things from them.
