20 years after the 8-bit classic was released, Bionic Commando Rearmed recreates the world of the original with a complete "2.5D" visual revamp. Bionic Commando Rearmed preserves the original's mix of swinging and shooting in an intense 2D side-scroller, all to the tune of a brand-new soundtrack based on the classic 8-bit music from the NES masterpiece.
But Rearmed is far more than just a remake - it features all-new modes such as the 2-player co-op play, smarter enemy AI, new bionic arm abilities, new weapons, bigger bosses and online rankings. Faithfully sticking to the story of the NES game, Bionic Commando Rearmed tells the story of Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer's first mission, sent in to retrieve captured agent Super Joe from the hands of the Imperials.
Fans of the original story can expect to see all the characters from the NES version, as well as the memorable moments that made the title so popular with fans. Rearmed will also link-up to its 3D "big brother" coming to PC, with unlockable content, in-game hints and a story that spans both games.

The control layout is a nightmare. Made this game unplayable for me.8 found this helpful
Took me a lot of time to barely start it, but there is a different problem - controls are so stiff and awkward, and the game feels too short. Probably the only game in the world where the Game Boy version feels better! I would recommend it but only during big discount. Not worth the full price, that's for sure, especially since it's not optimized properly for newer PCs. And playing on Steam Deck? Forget about it, even with those custom Protons.
An excellent remake of the original classic.
A classic game remade with fresh 3D graphics. Had a bit of trouble reading my gamepad and some of the interfacing feels weird. Controls are extra weird and had to acclimate to the button layout each time I booted it up (sometimes even between missions). I actually really REALLY dislike the controls. Moving while swinging or hanging from your arm automatically makes you jump (rather than a direction and input like other games). Cycling through weapons is a pain not to mention I only found a use for a few. It is a classic game so it does come with classic difficulty. I.e. you die quickly, jumps need to be pretty accurate, limited lives, and pits mean death. The hacking game was actually pretty fun although feels limited in it’s variety. Bosses are gimmicky which is fun but then you realize there’s only a few types of bosses and they reuse them with only slightly different variations. Final boss was a bit of a letdown and lacked challenge or uniqueness.
A nice homage to the original NES game with some nice visuals based upon when the game came out. The game is definitely more forgiving then the original from what I remember. However, I did have to look up how to figure out some of the bosses. Nevertheless, for the cost of a bag of chips, give or take, I definitely had my worth of fun.
Remastered the game, but the controls are absolute trash.
