I liked the first one, but didn't bother to complete it fully past the final boss. I also did not bother to complete the DLC's. This time around, holy moly, i did the full course and 100%ted it. Gameplay is immaculate. Played it in spanish for full immersion and, dios mio, this game ♥♥♥♥♥ very hard. Soundtrack is amazing, Gameplay is immaculate with all 5 weapons and so many builds with the figures and beads. The DLC's are great too, with third sin being the best of the two. Only downside from the first one are the cutscenes, i think they detract from the eldrich terror of the grievous miracle, which was very apparent from the first game. Highly recommend this for any metroidvania lovers out there. May the miracle be with thee, Penitente.1 found this helpful
Loved the first game (that I just completed, so there is no nostalgia bias) but hate its sequel, wtf happened ? - The clean hand-drawn 2D cinematics are an odd choice for me, it doesn't work as well as the pixel art ones from the first game - The animation feels too cartoonish - Some enemies look like NBA Players (the tall ones with a stick dealing elemental damage) ?? Can't unsee it - Movements are clunky when they don't refuse to work. - It's frustrating to have to switch weapons in combat to unlock movesets to avoid damage, because I don't want to fight with the stupid no range no damage little blades - The "arena" rooms are poorly designed (they remind me of the worst parts of Silksong). Metroidvanias really need to stop doing this, this is cheap game design to artificially boost playtime. - The foreground art can hide the vicious small enemies - If you die too much, picking your fervour back still doesn't fully restore the bar. So you can't cast prayers anymore and have to go back to the city to wipe out the guilt, very fun. Feel free to git gud me TLDR : too frustrating, less charm, poor game design choices
I just had to take the time to write a quick review for this fantastic game, I should have done it earlier but I was waiting to include my thoughts about the main game, as well as the Mea Culpa DLC and now the Third Sin expansion. I played thru the first game (Blasphemous), it was awesome - it and Hollow Knight basically redefined the Metroidvania genre when they came out. I was very excited to play Blasphemous 2 when it was announced. I played thru it when it first came out and it didnt dissappoint. The addition of the multiple weapons was exactly the progression you would want in a sequel - changing the formula a bit, but not that much as to not deviate too far from what made the original game so good. So I played thru the base game, got both endings, and was very satisfied with where they left it. I wasnt sure if they would do any DLC or expansions because the base game was so full. But then they released the Mea Culpa DLC. I must admit, I didnt play thru the Mea Culpa DLC right away as I was dealing with a backlog of my other games. But when they released the Third Sin expansion, I just had to dive back in and play thru them both. Here are my thoughts about both the Mea Cul…

Hi, We are mainly familiar with the genre and franchise, so... - Is it good? Yes. - A good metrodivania? Yes. - 45hrs for the 100% one run. It is worthy - Does it show something different than the previous one? Yes, but it is not transcendent. - Overall gameplay is good? Yes, smooth and faster. - Quality of the game? 9/10 just because no crashes, good performance, nice graphics, but less scary and intriguing. I would recommend it either on sale or not.
