Call of the Elder Gods

Lovecraftian horror turned into a neatly structured escape-room experience. The universe seethes with ancient madness, humanity stares into truths it was never meant to know, and somehow, the puzzles remain fair and the clues are surprisingly considerate.

Excellent sequel to Call of the Sea with some truly great puzzles. The logic puzzle where you had to fill out the identification information of several cultists was the standout one, But all of them where good and only one truly stumped me at first bacause it was so... weird and abstract, but looking back it wasn't that bad i guess, should probably have paid more attention. In regards to playtime, It's definitly not 25 hours long, must have had the game running for quite some time outside of playing it. I think 10 - 15 is more correct with no (or minimal) hints. Nothing is missable in the achievements, you can go back to chapters and keep your filled logbook and just pick up the ones you missed, same with any achievement. When you know the solution to each major puzzle in each area you can quickly move forward if you missed something.

Gripping story, fun puzzles with the right amount of thinking needed - connects well with the first game 'Call of the Sea' - has a fun easter egg if you played 'American Arcadia' - absolutely love this game!

Call of the Elder Gods is another lovely little game but Out of the Blue Games, (who ‘out of the blue’ appear to becoming a developer I really enjoy) and a pretty good sequel to Call of the Sea. Off the bat, there are many similarities to Call of the Sea, just with a higher budget. The gameplay is mostly the same, gentle environmental exploration, reading logs and notes and decent puzzle solving. There is now the addition of dialogue options at different points, however, as we have characters in game, interacting with each other. I found the puzzles really enjoyable for the most part. There was never any moon logic, they made sense and they were enjoyable to uncover piece by piece. There was one puzzle which I did find a little irritating, but I was able to uncover enough clues to brute force it essentially. Graphically, it employs the same cartoony art style, though it’s not too stylised to totally lose the creepiness at points and overall it looks beautiful. While similar to the first game, I think it’s had a few upgrades and there’s a much greater variety of environments that are very interesting to explore. I would recommend this game but it isn't without it flaws, I enjoyed the story there were no mechanics that I disliked but there were some elements of the puzzles that could be improved. Mostly some of the clues to not immediately tell you how to solve it and it becomes a bit of trial and error with some problem solving which is fine when you have a lot of disposable time but at times it felt frustrating and this was a repeated theme of the puzzles on the other hand some of the puzzles gave you enough information that you could problem solve quite easily but their complexity meant if you got one thing wrong the entire puzzle would be wrong if the developers make a game similar I think a wordle like mechanic would be useful green for in the correct place and the misaligned content specifically for the sanctum puzzle and the enigma puzzles which had a lot of moving parts and going back and forth between notes and information found throughout the various rooms, in addition to that the hints should remain hints but some of them were walkthroughs and gave you the answers to the puzzles which did not leave me satisfied with having completed it, the last enigma one for example I had probl…

Having played Call of the Sea a few months ago, this fixed a lot of the technical issues I found with that game (movement speed, accessibility options around subtitles, etc.). I really enjoyed the puzzles bar one near the end (all correct and some correct shouldn't produce the same result imo, I don't think that gives me the information to complete it), however I do think the story was a little weak in comparison to the first game. Not a deal breaker for me, but worth knowing.
