Chains of Fury

Love the art direction of this game, but after level 2 or 3 it basically just becomes a punching simulator until you unlock a new weapon, use all the ammo for that, run out, then back to punching. The punching doesn't even feel good. This game has so much potential, but when there's literally no possible way to get ammo in a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER, then there's a problem. If you wanna play a comic book art style shooter, play Forgive Me Father 1 & 2, Void Bastards & Wild Bastards. ALL FAR superior games that actually let you shoot your enemies in a first person SHOOTER.

Warning: in its current state, "Chains of Fury" is not just bad. For me, it is effectively unplayable. As far as I understand, the game was released unfinished because of a conflict between the publisher and the developer. At this point, it also looks like the game is no longer supported, so I would not expect any major fixes. YouTube videos show that the game can technically be completed. In my case, it cannot. Judging by recent reviews and forum posts, similar issues are affecting other players as well. The main critical bug is the complete absence of ammunition drops. At first, I played for a while without even realizing that something was broken. Then I started getting suspicious, checked some YouTube walkthroughs, and saw that enemies were supposed to drop ammo. In my game, they do not drop any ammo at all. I even tried switching to easy difficulty, thinking that maybe it was tied to the difficulty setting. It changed nothing. In theory, regular enemies can be killed with brass knuckles. This requires abusing save-load, but it can work because the enemies are incredibly stupid and not very aggressive. Wanna play a boomer shooter where you can't shoot anything? I've got a game for you! I saw the negative reviews when this game came out, but I waited, figured maybe all the bugs and glitches would get patched out. It's been a little over eighteen months and it seems like the game is still broken. Goody! There's no story from what I can tell. You're thrown in prison. Break out and kill a bunch of aliens. Done. So that just leaves the gameplay! It doesn't work. You can punch and kick open doors and walls and enemies--something you primarily need to do to progress in the game. As the game progresses, you get new guns, upgrades, blah blah blah. The game moves kinda sluggishly for some reason. The narrative is trying so hard to make it seem like "AWW YEAH, THIS IS BADASS AND AWESOME AND BADASS AND COOL AND BADASS AND BADASS!!!" but in terms of its "badassness" it's kind of tame. You shoot enemies with big guns and you can punch and kick them...and that's it. They explode into a gory mess (which is lovely) but there's no personality besides "generic action hero." This isn't Johnny Turbo or the DOOM Marine/Slayer or DUSK Man or Duke Nukem or Jack Banhammer--hell, Max Payne feels gritt…

Very frustrating game most of the time. Limited ammo. Games are supposed to be fun, not frustrating like another job. I work enough as it is. Even on Easy level, I could not come close to beating the final boss. I beat 7 of 8 levels. Close enough I guess.....

The "Mostly Negative" reviews here kept me away from buying 'Chains of Fury' so many times, but I saw it on Fanatical for $2 and just had to give it a shot and, well, it's definitely not good. The comic book aesthetic with it being an FPS is what initially drew me and probably everyone else in because it's just something that meshes well. The presentation at first seems pretty good alongside some good music will then give you a false impression because the gameplay. well heck even settings is where everything just falls apart. The gunplay itself for like the first 20 minutes works well enough, it's a little slow, but kicking down doors as your met with an alien's guts exploding like a party popper as you flick off the rest of your foes while being in a furious rage feels kinda fun until one of the biggest problems arise..... WHERE ARE MUH BULLETS?! In my 2 playthroughs on both 'Easy' and 'Normal' I could not find any bullets, with 'Normal' it says you can only pick up bullets during 'Fury,' which sounds like an okay challenge on paper until you realize that no more bullets show up, like yes some guns do have unlimited ammo during this, but no more additional ammo showed up for me…

So bad. Don't recommend.
