About Chessarama
Chessarama is a collection of original puzzle and strategy games inspired by Chess. It reimagines chess rules and tactics using many different themes. Each game has its own set of rules, visual theme and original handcrafted challenges for you to play!

In Dragon Slayer, you need to push your pawn to the end of a path in order to kill the mighty dragon. But it will not be that easy! The dragon attacks the board every time the pawn moves and every undefended piece will die.
In Lady Ronin, Chess meets Sokoban. You play with a Ronin (a chess queen) and you
need to eliminate the other pieces in order to get close to the Shogun and kill it. Pieces move like in chess, but push each other like in sokoban.
In Soccer Chess you will play a soccer match using chess pieces. You will need to think a few moves ahead if you want to break through the adversary's defenses to score a goal.

Chessarama is a very self-conscious and demanding entry into the chess puzzle/variation genre, established by games such as Gigachess. Unfortunately, its puzzles are generally mediocre. I actually liked the "Lady Ronin" variation, though it has more in common with the <character>GO puzzle game genre than chess. There are two main things that basically secure my negative recommendation. First is the unlock system. You start the game with pretty much everything locked down and no flexibility. Only one of the four puzzle modes starts unlocked, and it's (imo) the second-worst one. Completing the challenges if you want to unlock things in a timely manner is not optional; the "all challenges complete" bonus of 60xp is far greater than the 15xp given for completing a level. Things unlock in a linear manner, so you never have more than one incomplete puzzle for puzzle type (a real problem for the second puzzle variant, which was neat but too easy, so I wanted to skip ahead) and I almost ran out of patience before unlocking the Dragon Slayer mode. There is literally no reason for the animations to take longer than the puzzle itself.
I could find so many QOL improvements in 1 hour that the game seems never tested.
Came for chess, found "plant stuff but move in an L-shape" game.
This game is insanely good! But stick with it—the first few levels are way too easy. After 30 minutes, it gets exciting.
