I would say a relic of it's time, but even then better games in the genre existed. Bad camera, enemies that ignore being hit through their combos or are so easily put into a combo they are trivial, several enemies where blocking is useless because you still take damage, and dodging taking no stamina making it the obvious better option always. I'm glad I played remnant first because I would never have given this company another try if this was the first game i played.

It was OK. Straight up 5/10. Middle of the road. Decent. Nothing spectacular. Passable. Not bad. Run-of-the-mill. The game itself is quite easy, slow paced, figure-out-the-trick-and-stun-lock-all-enemies-until-you-win. I would not call this a souls-like at all. I didn't experience any souls mechanic whatsoever. The fact that 3 of the achievements just don't exist in this game is pretty asinine. However, I still liked it for what it was. To see the universe the developers built in its most infant form was a cool experience (MAN, what a cool universe they're building too). I don't have a lot to say, but if you're a fan of Remnant, this is the beginning story to The Root. I recommend this game purely on my love for the franchise. It's worth it to put the 10 hours into this game.

Great game! I like the fight mechanics and lore.

If you can, try playing this before Remnant or Remnant 2, as this is the prequel to those games. It is a bit janky, but it is pretty fun. It isn't the longest game in the world, but it is pretty jam packed. The final boss has a pretty interesting gimmick too. The other bosses are good and not too hard, but pretty fun. I'd recommend getting this game.
New review
Old review at the end I decided to keep up and finish the game. I am glad I did for the lore, but the gameplay is still extremely clunky and annoying. The only way I managed to deal with this issue was to run an agility/dodge build instead of a strength/parry build, and abuse of stun locks as much as possible. Now that this is said, the level design is very good and does feel like a Remnant game. It was also very fun to learn more about some lore linked to the two sequels in ways I did not expect. I would still not recommend this game for most people, though. It is a pretty bad roguelite/souls-like overall, and the aging mechanic is a good idea but very poorly executed. Only players who yearn for more Remnant lore should bother with it, and my new thumbs up review is only dedicated for these people. Anyone not familiar with the Remnant series, stay away from this game and go play the sequels! Also, this is definitely not worth 30 € and you should not buy it for anything more than 10 €

Old thumbs down review
I love the Remnant series and have played it for nearly 300h, so I figured I might as well try this game too.
