About Circus Electrique

Named for the greatest show in Victorian steampunk London, Circus Electrique is part story-driven RPG, part tactics, part circus management, and completely enthralling – all with a steampunk twist.

When everyday Londoners mysteriously turn into vicious killers, only the circus’ lineup of Strongmen, Fire Blowers, Clowns and other performers possess the unique talents necessary to save the city. Through tactical turn-based battles, these unlikely heroes face Bobbies, British Sailors gone bad, aggressive Posh Girls, and other Victorian-era archetypes stand in their way – not to mention the occasional menacing Mime or Robobear. The game’s innovative Devotion morale system affects characters’ performance not only in battles, but also for actual circus shows, dutifully managed between heroic jaunts through six sprawling districts.

Key Features:

Electrifying RPG Combat
Test the skills of Strongmen, Fire Blowers, Escape Artists, Clowns, and other classic circus performers – 15 playable archetypes total, each with deep tactical options in battle. Assemble the most ideal combination of acrobatic artists to fight against over-the-top enemies.

Manage the Greatest Show in Steampunk London
Despite the chaos, the show must go on! Rebuild the circus to its former greatness and beyond, recruiting and training the most talented performers coming in from all over the world. Performers’ skill, chemistry with one another, and overall Devotion combine to determine the monetary success of a single show – and you’ll need every single spare Shilling you can get both for Amelia’s quest and to keep everyone paid and happy.

A Circus Like No Other
Immerse yourself in a striking world based on vintage circus posters, Victorian-era archetypes and classic steampunk charm.

I'm not sure if the negative reviews from September 2022 have any relevance anymore, the developer seems to have patched most flaws. I certainly never encountered any game-breaking bugs during my Hard playthrough. Maybe I was just lucky, or perhaps exploring each district 100% before moving to the next one helped. Yes, some random battles were surprisingly challenging and seemed unbalanced initially (like encounter #4 in the second club with that heavy hitter), but at the end it was always doable. On the other hand, the visuals, sound design, and atmosphere are excellent, and there's a ton of minigames, which I'm a sucker for. Although the circus setup initially seemed like it could become tedious, the later announcements being bigger and longer saved the day. There are a few shortcomings here and there, and perhaps five districts would have been more than enough. Still, I had a great time with this seemingly dead title, so my advice is to jump in at the next discount and see for yourself.

I like having a casual game around for when I'm drinking whiskey, Something calm but still exciting! This checks all the boxes with it's awesome music and sound fx and gives your imagination plenty of room to play as you drink away. Cheers!

Very good Darkest Dungeon-esq game with a surprisingly good story.

Lovely little game. Bought it on a whim, not let down. The art work is fun, and the turn based strategy is refreshing (and cute). It feels like a more updated Darkest Dungeon.

Circus Electrique is a strikingly unconventional strategy RPG from Zen Studios that merges turn-based tactical combat with circus management in a steampunk reimagining of Victorian London. The premise alone sets it apart from more traditional entries in the genre: a mysterious phenomenon known as “the Maddening” has driven much of the city’s population into violent insanity, and the only individuals seemingly resistant to its effects are the performers of the titular Circus Electrique. Strongmen, fire breathers, clowns, acrobats, fortune tellers, and other eccentric acts become unlikely heroes, venturing into the streets to subdue rampaging citizens and uncover the truth behind the chaos. The concept is both whimsical and dark, blending theatrical flair with social unrest in a way that gives the entire campaign a distinct personality. At the heart of the experience is its turn-based combat system, which draws inspiration from formation-focused tactical RPGs. Battles unfold across side-view arenas where positioning matters greatly, and each performer archetype brings a specialized set of abilities. Some characters excel at absorbing punishment, others manipulate enemy positions, wh…
