Duskpunk

I would very tentatively recommend this game. Pros: 1. It's a solid roleplaying experience with resource management and an interesting setting. The world is interesting and I enjoyed the classic "overthrow the evil empire" plotline. 2. It's clearly made by a passionate dev, and I always like supporting people who make narrative games with some gameplay depth, a real story, and at least somewhat sophisticated message they're trying to tell 3. I really liked the character of the priest and I enjoyed working with the War Dead (faction of deserters you can align yourself with) Cons: 1. The message the story was trying to tell was one I somewhat agree with, but the execution was hamfisted. Without spoiling too much, it has some extremely obvious parallels to a particular real world revolution. When I got to the end and there was a big quote from Leon Trotsky I couldn't help but laugh at it. 2. The character work was honestly shoddy. It ran the gamut from absurd "heroes of the working class" who could have been pulled straight from YA literature to the comically over-the-top evil Emperor his faceless minions. it's really well written and I only found out about this game from a random reddit comment the dev wrote. the game is just great overall!

First, if you enjoyed Sleeper Citizen, you will love this game. There are many similarities, from the mechanics the story flow, and just trying not to get yourself turned into mulch. Second, if you enjoy putting things into place, getting something someone wants (money is important, but like... one of a dozen different 'currencies' you can do things with) to get something you need. Then you'll love this. There are many ways to accomplish things, and aside from mandatory story points, where no 'roll' was needed, I didn't throw a single punch. Third. If you like political intrigue? The story is all about that. You start from nothing, and you have the option to become... everything. Break kneecaps to win a crowd, or break bread to smooth over a politiions doubts. Or just hang out in an alleyway and rescue pidgeons. How great you become is up to you. Forth. The story is great. A steampunk version of England, right in the founding stages of 'the people taking over'. Things are explained, or not, depending on how much you want to read. Very good game!

Short, emotional, and mechanically fairly simple (so long as you don't annoy the Dice Gods). A perfect narrative RPG for those who don't have a lot of free time, and with an inspiring tale that's well worth engaging with on a deeper level. Excellent work. Long live the Sarum People's Republic!
