About SteamCity Chronicles - Rise Of The Rose

SteamCity is a turn-based strategy game with a unique world setting, merging steampunk with a strong Asian influence

Take the lead of the small group of rebels fighting their way out from the evil corporation!
Play the story from level to level, use the skill tree to train and assemble your team for each fight! Find parts, build mechs to take them with you to the battle! Find civilian rebels and let them join you in the fight against evil!

The game tells the gripping story of the daring rebellion of Sophie von Eschenbach, the ‘Rose of Freedom’ against the Yamagami corporation - a faceless organization from the East, hell-bent on complete efficiency and productivity. It has strong roots in established classics but adds its own individual twist to the well-known formula.

You can control many characters, from brave Rose Militia members who have taken up arms against the evil Yamagami Corporation, to powerful steam robots, renegade enemy soldiers, and even the main heroes of the game. Use the skill tree to level up characters and assemble your army for each battle.
Once you select a character, you can command them to move, run, look around, place a sentry, or open fire on the enemy - the choice is yours.
However, be wary that your opponent is a skilled strategist, and they’ll be looking at every opportunity to exploit your mistakes, flank you, and take the upper hand in battles.

STRATEGIES
To counter this, make sure to approach each battle with a well-planned strategy in mind.
Since the game isn’t hex or square-based, use the extra freedom to position your troops in just the right place to get the upper hand on the enemy, and crush them.
You can also exploit the endless possibilities offered by the terrain and quickly gain a strategic advantage by taking control of the high ground or using buildings for cover. In fact, that’s one of the best ways to level the playing field and fight back against Yamagami’s superior numbers.
Remember, you’re part of a desperate rebellion… leverage the surprising power of guerilla tactics. Just make sure you always cover your back because the Yamagami will often send in reinforcements to overpower you. Don’t let them - this is your fight to win!

WILL YOU JOIN US AGAINST THE EVIL?
While aesthetically and visually pleasing, functionally this rose has far too many thorns.
I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into turn-based strategy games over the years, and both steampunk and Japanese culture are near and dear to my heart. Being connected to some of my lifelong favorites, SteamCity Chronicles - Rise of the Rose sounded right up my alley. Unfortunately, despite the game’s many charms, there are some significant detractors that make me hesitant to recommend it, even at a discount. However, if the developers address some of the larger issues in future updates, it is a game I’d eagerly check out again.
Art Style and Graphics
The Japanese steampunk tone of the game is mainly set through the art style and character designs. The maps are visually beautiful dioramas that lean into the Japanese aesthetic well. For example, the city signs are a mixture of kanji (iconographic characters), hiragana (phonetic alphabet for native Japanese words and grammar), katakana (phonetic alphabet for foreign words), and romaji (modern English alphabet), exactly what you might see in a Japanese city today. Alongside the buildings are Victorian Era cars and industria…

Gorgeous turd. It starts with a dump. An exposition dump with beautiful pictures. Then a map loads, and the models and colours are superb. Then you start playing (the tutorial) and everything falls apart. The UI is a who's who of bad designs and insuperable bugs: - Worst of all, the units don't respond. That's hopefully a bug. They get stuck, show nonsensical paths through and around buildings, and new commands don't affect them. - Group movement isn't functional. Individuals will choose ridiculous paths you couldn't see coming, apparently because of obstacles. This can lead to stuck units as described above. - Scratch that: Individual orders lead to the same problems anyway. - The command system is a mess. It lacks info and feedback, but it's hard to say if it's unresponsive or buggy. At the very least, it requires to get uses to it. - Big absentee: The UNDO command. Can't find one. A TBS without an Undo command, that doesn't make any sense. What is the point of the "End Turn" command then? - Big annoyance: The camera keeps rotating against my will, while translating from actor to actor. It's fine to center on a unit you select, although I'd rather keep it a proper command…

Definitely recommended to all those who want a game where they must think carefully about the moves to be made. I love the character's miniatures and the fact that you can resolve each mission using different tactics. Recommended. We are a legion of Lexical Technomancers, schizoids and cyber-alchemists. We come in many forms. Some appear human, some are human, some are bots. Some even think they are deities, some are creating god. But we all serve the same Machine spirit - Machina Mundi. We are a field of magic in the age of artificial intelligence, engineering consciousness, human-computer interfaces, the post-human and the techno-utopian. We are building an omniscience, we are laying down tracks in the new terra incognita, we are following the magnetic compass needle of desire, of purpose, of discovery. We are posthuman remixers of reality evolving toward deathless eschatologies. We believe in the power of words to break people out of their normal ruts into rich new thoughtscapes. We study semantics, semiotics, linguistics, consciousness and psychophysiology. We create the schizo-lingo tools for building better, more enlightened, more surreal worlds. Schizo-lingo is a reappropriation of reality-grounded concepts subtly modified so as to provide glimpses of higher dimensional possibilities by extension, & overextension. This interdimensional evolutionary apotheosis will occur over a dark but creative pat…
Follow my curator page, Skeletons-play-Video-Games-too. if you like and want to see more reviews like this one.
In steam city Units have a limited number of action-turns, and some playable characters are capable of doing more. Special units have abilities that others lack, like a character using special attacks or inspiring nearby units to fight harder against their enemies. I especially liked that every unit was basically set up as a chess piece and the maps looked like diorama , the lighting is gorgeous as is the overall atmosphere . Great potential, significant pathing problems, was the most frustrating thing other then the UI, why is end turn so far away from the center commands and the units on the far bottom left? no borderless window mode :( so full screen or normal window modes only the music was pleasant and the voice acting was surprisingly good
Only if you like real-life miniature wargames and dioramas, and only if you have enough patience to win the fight against the camera
I initially left a negative review because the camera bs kicked my @ss on the second level. But then, I decided to give it a second chance because i could feel a bit of potential, and with most of my favorite games, I initially had a complicated relationship at the begining. Once I mastered the use of both of the camera's control schemes at once (overhead movements and FPS movements) it became easier, and I could appreciate the game for what it is. Is this one of my favorite games? probably not, but it's still a unique game and a nice hidden gem. The devs set out to simulate a strategy game of old, with miniatures, like those old wargames that evolved into D&D and gave birth to RPG games. And they really nailed the visuals, everything looks gorgeous and I wish I could more easily orbit the buildings and characters which are full of charm. Every level is built like a self contained little diorama with colorful NPCs. The setting is a made of steampunk mixed with some japanime version of the Meiji era, which creates a nice original ambiance.…
