Players praise the Dark Parables series' stunning visuals, atmospheric storytelling, and engaging puzzles that offer a good balance of relaxation and challenge. However, several report significant progression-blocking bugs that force complete restarts, which undermines the experience despite the game's otherwise solid production and interesting story connections to earlier entries in the franchise.
Dark Parables: The Thief and the Tinderbox – Collector’s Edition, developed by Eipix Entertainment and published by Big Fish Games, continues the long-running legacy of the Dark Parables franchise, a series known for weaving together fairy tales, mythic lore, and detective-style hidden-object adventures. This installment transports players to the Mountain Kingdom, a land threatened by raging fires and mysterious forces linked to a fabled artifact known as the Tinderbox. The player once again assumes the role of the Fairytale Detective, drawn into a plot of intrigue, betrayal, and redemption, where every clue found and every puzzle solved brings the truth closer to light. Eipix’s craftsmanship is evident in its atmospheric approach, balancing traditional folklore with the developer’s signature visual flourish and storytelling rhythm. The Collector’s Edition enhances the experience with a bonus chapter, concept art, re-playable puzzles, and hidden-object scenes that invite players to return even after the main story concludes. Visually, the game is striking, offering a rich palette of colors that evoke a sense of enchantment and danger in equal measure. The hand-painted backdrops, i…
Love the series and this was promising! Stunning visuals as per usual, and a nice story which involves some of the lore from other games (which I can appreciate). Why would I not recommend? This game is BUGGY and not so much as its super glitchy every second or unplayable by any means, but when you DO run into a glitch you will have to start a new run because you will not be able to progress. Check the discussion tab for this game to get what I mean, some people had the issue at Chapter 3, but me personally had an issue where I couldn't click on the place I needed to insert a token, I restarted it, tried the hints, everything but based on discussions it seems the only way to play more of the story is by RESETTING and getting all the way back to that point. Mind you, as much as I love these games they take a few hours and aren't really great for replay value unless you forget where everything goes because nothing changes and there is no randomness. To boot, if you're picking up one of these games they are very old and not updated anymore (I think) so this issue will never be fixed. If you love the series and want some visually stunning game play and variety (moreso from the older ga…
Good graphics - vibrant colors and smooth. The games are fun and relaxing .. until I decide to go for a more challenging option! I'll play it again in that mode. For now, it's been fun.
(Note: The next Dark Parable game is not on Steam, I have no clue why. So, I have to play it on another site. If anyone knows why, feel free to let me know in comments) "Ra, ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen." I seriously would have killed to be a fly on the wall when the developers decided to make Rasputin the villain. I was greatly disappointed by the last two games in the Dark Parables series, however, this one was quite a pleasant surprise. The HO scenes were beautiful. Puzzles were a great challenge that I enjoyed, even though that path game puzzle they kept repeating did make me want to yank out my hair a few times. But good story, but OMG! At the ending of the Bonus Game, I wonder if we will get follow up on that character's fate in future games. "In the dark of the night, evil will find her!"
World's edge is a breathtaking place that i'm also stealing for meself
This is the twelfth game in the series. Just wait to buy it in the 50% off sale that runs every now and again. I enjoyed this one, but it sort of loses the plot a bit when it comes to fairytales. It has steam cards and in-game achievements but not steam achievements. (Any missed achievements are obtainable again after completing the bonus chapters.) The release order of Dark Parables is: Curse of Briar Rose The Exiled Prince Rise of the Snow Queen SPINOFF- Fabled Legends: The Dark Piper The Red Riding Hood Sisters The Final Cinderella SPINOFF- Cursery: The Crooked Man and the Crooked Cat. Jack and the Sky Kingdom Ballad of Rapunzel The Little Mermaid and the Purple Tide November 12, 2014 Queen of Sands Goldilocks and the Fallen Star Swan Princess and the Dire Tree The Thief and the Tinderbox Requiem for the Forgotten Shadow Return of the Salt Princess The Match Girl’s Lost Paradise Portrait of the Stained Princess (released in 2019 so there's unlikely to be any more)
