DarkStone Restoration

Absolute classic. Getting to play through this again has brought back some great memories. There are some nice QOL changes that players rediscovering this title will definitely appreciate. I look forward to seeing how it further improves with the developer having come back to update the game. If you're new to the game, but have been a fan of the Diablo series (1 and 2 especially), I can't recommend the game enough. If you enjoyed the original release from over 25 years ago, definitely give this one a go again.

it is really fun the only major issues i have are the use of AI in the game and also the lack of multiplayer and more mod support. the original game had much more mod support and the multiplayer still works on it too. it's a shame we only have split screen right now. I hope we can get more updates eventually leading us to online and hopefully cross play. Would be nice to see new character classes added to the game and maybe new worlds too kinda like what diablo 2 did but without having to pay for it.

I think the short answer is if your nostalgic for an ARPG in which you create/build two characters simultaneously... this fits* IF you are hoping for a deep experience... its not here. Characters can be built to learn any magic... skills are the only unique trait between the classes... and each adventure is a psuedo RNG of main quests that tie to fighting the final boss. IF you said I want Diablo 1 randomness with two party members at once... that is Darkstone. Score: A 6/10 that has QoL to modernize, but this particular formula hasn't aged enough compared to the original where you MUST play this version. *PC version apparently allows couch co-op with one controller and one KBM. You do NOT (I haven't found it) get split screen. AI gets stuck in doorways solo, might be worse than D2 mercs... stop following is a toggle you need in dungeons with Gauntlet teleport squares.

As someone who grew up playing the PS1 port, then later hunting down the original PC CD, this is the definitive way to play Darkstone. A lot of quality of life fixes are here that make this version much, much easier to play than the original 1999 release, such as WASD character movement, very much bigger gold stacks, potions and food now stacking up to 10, quick cast spell slots that cast on the press of 1-8, and a movable ui to go with it. Also improved here are monster respawn rates that made experience gain and leveling really difficult before, and gold seems to be a bit easier to come by than i remember (though it's worth mentioning that it has been a while since i played the original extensively). Other improvements include controller support, split screen multiplayer(haven't tested this one personally), upscaled assets and textures, the ability to disable said upscaled assets and textures(if you prefer the original game look), a setting to disable most of the gameplay improvements(like WASD controls or auto gold pickups, if you want to party like its 1999) and a quest journal to track all those townspeople fetch quests and bounties. 26 years have passed since i played Darkstone for the last time And It's still fun to play as a remester. Game mechanics feels a bit outdated but it's ok. Just like in old times you have to put an end to the infamous Draak fellow 4 classes, item grinding, solo and coop, dungeons and quests and that famtastic title song (don't forget to toss a coin for the bards in town)
