About Descent
Prepare To Start Your Descent.
Sensory overload in 360° 3-D.
Welcome to Descent™ - 27 levels of the most mind-bending, stomach-churning action game ever. Featuring true 3-Dimensional worlds with light source shading, texture mapping, 3-D morphing, directional sound effects and sizzling music, this is technology taken to the limit.
Something has happened at Lunar Base I. The Post-Terran Mining Company has lost contact with the miners and none of the mining robots are responding. The PTMC has brought in you the Material Defender to deal with the situation. Your mission is to find any survivors and find the source of threat. You will start a journey that takes you from the Moon to Pluto. Best of luck Material Defender.
Lunge straight down mine shafts, twist around never-ending tunnels and fight your way past robotic menaces in an environment that's truly 6 degrees of freedom... move up, move down, shoot everything everywhere. Hang onto your senses (and your lunch) as you drop straight down mine shafts on a ride that'll leave you spinning.
And what's the good of losing your mind if you can't share the experience with your friends? Descent invites you and your buddies to dive into the action together with head-to-head combat and cooperative two-player modem and eight-player network support.

Bought this expecting a proper modern port of the classic Descent, but it's just a bare-bones 62 MB DOSBox wrapper with zero updates. Framerate feels capped/low (around 15-30 FPS depending on setup), no native modern controller support (old joysticks only work poorly), and no widescreen/high-res fixes out of the box. I got the full series on GOG for under $10 years ago with better extras and the same ability to drop the data files into source port. This feels like minimal effort for the price. Disappointing re-release of a 30-year-old game. The owners should be ASHAMED.23 found this helpful
when it was released, it was absolutely mind-blowing. I had a 486 DX2-66, got the demo off a computer magazine, and played it until my eyes bled. Something like this, 360 degree movement FPS, did not exist before Descent. Later i bought the game. A year later, Quake was released. The nineties was a very good time to be a young gamer. Descent atmosphere was unique. The sequel was good but never quite the same. Also the music in Descent is something that just sticks in your mind. Now with rebirth mod, you can play Descent on your modern computer without any issues. I recommend you do so.1 found this helpful
Trying to refund after being totally unable to fix this buggy mess. Could not get game speed to adjust correctly. Such a shame. I had fond memories of this game from the 1990's
i like this game
An essential must-play from back in the day. It's sequels expand on the mechanics but there's something about the simpler original game that still pulls me back again and again after all these years.
best flight simulation game ever made. still better then anything new
