For the price it works, but the game itself is insanely short and only really gets good at the very end when the game ends, literally. It has potential if it was longer but it feels like it was rushed for a quick grab at money. I honestly wouldn't recommend it.

I did enjoy what I played but ultimately I can't recommend it, it feels half baked, it ends abruptly and out of the sudden, it's a game with just 3 real chapters, too short.

For being a $5, it's a good game to waste a few hours on. However, it's not the best management COG game out there. I firmly believe WFTW holds that title. When the management section comes to play, you are only able to do one action (Build something, Meet with an RO, or do a side mission). Once you choose one, a week passes. I am really not sure why this is a trend in these management text-based games, but only being able to do one thing and then proceed with the story is just strange to me. So if you want to befriend all of the RO/NPC's, well that isn't happening. Especially if you want to grow a prosperous city. Don't get me wrong, you have time to get a decent amount of things done, for example in my playthrough, I was able to romance a character and fully build my city. However, this was at the cost of not being able to do all side quests, and not being able to build my relationships with the other characters. I recommend this game despite being extremely limited on time because the story is pretty decent and so are the characters. This game isn't groundbreaking. However, it is a fun and enjoyable time for the few hours or so you spend with it.

First off, I am not usually a fan of management games, although so far I seem to be doing quite well at this - fingers crossed! Its a cross between an adventure, civic construction, governing, and military confrontations, and I am enjoying it. It feels as though choices matter, the wrong one could kill you, and you have the option to save the game at important parts where a different choice could presumably take you down a different path, allowing the player to go back a bit without having to start the game again. This is most unusual for this type of Interactive fiction, while common in visual novels. I am enjoying the written style of the game. The world building is attractive with hints of Victorian era views of the mysterious East, without its prejudices, and in a steampunk setting. There is time to fit in friendships and flirtation if wanted, or you can devote your time to impersonating a workaholic, its up to you. I don't know whether this game will convert me to management games, but this one has a nice balance for those of us who are a bit dubious about playing soldiers or administrators all the time, which is a win/win situation for me.
